I had my own surprising experience recently related to our "connected" world. I own two EVs, Mach E and Bolt, and kept having failures charging my Bolt at EA stations, but it worked fine at EVGO. Finally I looked closer at the error messages on the screen and EA was telling me that Plug & Charge was failing. I called EA, and it turns out that they know when I pull up to their site, because they are connected to the Fordpass app on my phone, so they assume that I am charging my Mach E, rather than my Bolt.

Mind reading at its best.

FYI, they provided me with a fix, swipe to charge prior to plugging in.

It doesn't take listening to a speaker to notice that the OP posted in this forum's windshield replacement threads multiple times, likely using the same browser/device they use to shop on Amazon. Amazon certainly noticed.

With just my dinky laptop, a slow internet connection, and just the itty bits of information you all have provided to this forum, I can tell you when and where one commenter got their masters degree; the home addresses of many; that one probably deserved that first place trophy instead of 3rd in a car show many years ago; and etc., etc., etc. Along with just a few data points here, if I had your purchase history from Amazon or Google search history, or some 3rd-party browser cookies, I could tell when you were likely to buy a new part, or a book on a subject that's just starting to be of interest to you, or when you were going to remodel your kitchen, or almost anything else.

Anyone with even a little bit of searching skills could do the same with my information. It's all public.

If you own a home, the county assessor has your information on a public website, including how much it cost you (which says a ton about your wealth, and so does the fact that you're on a $50k-$70k car forum). If you enter into any kind of public event, your name eventually makes it onto the internet. If you post your real name and a vague location on LinkedIn, it's searchable. Much of what you post on facetwitgramtock is public even when you try to lock it down.

All it takes is a simple program to scrape that information off all the sites, some cookie munching, put it into a database, and start doing some analysis on it and I could tell you when your granddaughter is pregnant (before she announces it); what you feed your dog or cat; what kind of books you read; when you're likely to purchase that new book you heard about from your friend (on a public forum, preserved in your browser cookies); etc., etc., etc.

The advantage to Siri is that she’s too stupid to be threatening ?
All joking aside - two things to remember are that 1. Apple doesn’t commoditize you and/or your data, and 2. Apple tries to do as much processing on-device as possible (one of the reasons Siri is such a moron). Even Microsoft doesn’t really try to commoditize you very much (as far as I know). They sell some advertising, but I don’t think they do much else. Amazon, Meta, and Google are the big players in the user data commoditization space. Now, if they want to PAY me for my data and all derivatives from it, in perpetuity, I’m listening ?
I’m laughing hysterically but not at the joke part. If you think Apple isn’t using your data for their benefit you’re another example of someone easily swayed.

p.s Amazon also try to process on device as much as possible. Certain devices process all on device

I’m sorry - that was rude of me to laugh. But I reread post #17.
TBH, I have absolutely no proof that Apple DOESN’T commoditize my data to the extent that Amazon, Meta, and Google do. Consider though: if they did and word of that were to ever get out - how big the flaming bag of (pick your choice of words) would be that Tim would be holding?
I’m well aware that the barn door was opened years ago and all the horses, cows, chickens, and other animals have left and are all across the country, never to be returned. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have to LIKE the fact that Ford removed the hands-free lift gate (and now we are back on topic ?)
