Time of Use

We were on TOU rates long ago but that just reinforced the decision to go BEV.

We work at maximizing our savings and >75% of our power is consumed off-peak. A new rate is supposed to be coming with 2.5 cent per kWh off-peak power! The peak rate will be punitive though, at 25 cents. Currently it's 7.5 cents to charge 7 PM to 7 AM. We think that's pretty good.

Tried searching the forums for talk about it, but didn't find much. Wondering how many out there may have switched to a Time of Use (TOU) electric plan and what the results were. According to what I see from my supplier, I'll pay 1.8632 x the rate 2pm to 6pm M-F, 0.5749 x rate from 11pm to 6am Everyday, and 0.7821 x rate all other times. Seems reasonable with only 4 hours of a higher rate during the week while the rest of the time will be lower rates.

I was going to wait for my first bill, but truly I'd have to wait another month for a full bill of charging to then compare to a TOU price when I switch.

Hudson Valley NY owner here. Just went to TOI. Had my first bill. Cost during peak was 36.6 KwH, Int Peak was 13.8 KwH, TOI cost (11pm-6am) was 2.4/KwH. A HUGE difference.

How much energy did you use in each of those spans?

Here is the usage for each time period:
Peak: 142 KWH at 36.6/KwH
Int Peak: 68 KWH at 13.8/KwH
Off Peak: 537 KWH at 2.4/KwH (11 p- 6 a)

Charging our EV cost 25% of what peak hours cost. Not every utility makes this available, unfortunately
