Hello.

I have a mach e AWD ER 2021. And I find that the steering wheel is unstable and moves a lot from left to right at low speed, less than 30 km/h (20 miles/h), on roads with roughness.
I have not tried any other mach e, can you tell me if this is something normal?

Thanks

Does it change with drive modes. I stay in unbridled for the right responsiveness of the steering.

Most ford eps steering has pull drift compensation to help make the steering feel more consistent with different road conditions it could be playing up due to a defective sensor giving you more / less assistance than needed

Either way regardless of what it may be take it to the dealer and have it checked out as what you are experiencing is not normal.

Hello.

I made a video of the problem.

On a smooth road it doesn't move.

Unless someone beats me to it, I will try to find a rough road and see if mine does that. It reminds me of what a mechanically linked steering wheel would do, but I believe the MME steering is fully electric.

That’s called bump steer and a certain amount of it is normal. The MME has an excessive steering acceleration however, which might accentuate the effect if you aren’t holding the wheel.

I did a test on a section of rough gravel with some larger stones and it moved exactly like you showed in your video. So as Lee posted previously, it appears to be normal.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

As you can see the steering calibration has quite a bit of "momentum" (I'm trying not to laugh here). On a hydraulic rack the wheel would snap back instantly as soon as you let go but this one keeps on going quite a ways...

Hitting bumps is going to have the same effect as throwing the wheel slightly due to bump steer feedback.

NOTE: Doing this is hard on the power steering motor, please don't try for long.

Hello,

Ford changed the steering and now the driving is normal.
