So I have a 2023 Mach E select (LFP. Battery) that I bought used and thought it was a decent deal, especially for the area I live in(north East) Since I’ve owned the car, I have taken it to 3 seperate dealerships and a local ev repair shop 7 times all for this thinking noise. The second time I had the rear axle replaced under warranty and an upper control arm in the same area replaced(out of warranty). That seemed odd for a 2 year old car but even after these repairs, it still makes this thunk noise whenever accelerating or letting go in 1 pedal driving at very low speeds. Is this really normal? They tell me even their new Mach Es make this same noise . Any thoughts are greatly aprreciated

Define “very low speeds” though. If it’s around 4-5mph that’s when your physical brakes take over.

The hard part with chasing down noises when the car mechanically works is it may be “just a noise.” Frustrating for sure.

Can you take a video and be more specific as to when it’s happening?

Any chance that there is something rolling around in the underfloor storage area at the rear of the car?

I have the same issue. It’s around 10mph. I hear it when I give it “gas” then let off. Click then clack. I haven’t looked into it yet.
Mine started after the last HVBJB replacement.

If I dealer told me that even their new Mach-Es make this noise I would ask them for a test drive in one of their new cars and prove it.

It isn't normal.

I had an accelerate/decelerate noise after having the HVBJB recall performed.
It turned out to be that a bottle cap was left in the frunk tub.

thank you for the replies everyone. So on flat road ways it’s fine, but on hills, it not only makes the noise, but when on hills, it feels like a shift. It is far worse in 1PD than when it’s off but i will take the opinion of the motor mount because of the shift. I’ll let everyone know here shortly

Sorry for no video. But the mechanics keep saying it’s normal and it’s just the breaks. I don’t know any new ev that needs to use the brake when 1PD is engaged

That isn't true, and certainly not with the Mach-E. The Mach-E (and others) have a hybrid system.
Regen breaking is used down to about 5 MPH and then the friction brakes kick in.

And this applies to 2 pedal mode too. If one doesn't ram on the brakes, it will use regen breaking when it can and then switch to the friction brakes to come to a complete stop. It can be just as efficient in 2 pedal mode as 1 pedal. I drive in 1 pedal mode and my wife in 2 pedal, and we drive about the same way and get about the same efficiency.

But with that being said, I don't hear any "thunk" when stopping.

BTW you mentioned that it happens while accelerating. Since the friction brake is going to release the moment, you start accelerating, it certainly wouldn't "kick" at 5 MPH.

For reference, on how the Mach-E works, I find this demonstrates that. This is with my wife driving in 2 pedal mode. The "100% returned" is how the brake coach looks like on the 2025s. You will notice that at 4 MPH it is already announcing that all the possible regen has been reached.

@Jokulhaups have you ever test driven a new Mach-E?

Given that the mechanic is saying that all their new cars do the same thing, then it seems to me that you could do a test drive and prove (at least yourself) what is and what isn't "normal".

Test drives are free after all.

Good idea. If it isn’t doing what he’s experiencing, then swing by and pick up the service advisor, go for a drive in the test drive car and show them.
