My wife and I leased a new Mach E last February and we've been very pleased with the car. I programmed in most of the details, preferences, PAAK, etc and everything has been working great. However, today when I went to show my wife how to use the keyless entry, my code wouldn't work though it had worked after I had originally programmed it in. I did some research and discovered that I should have been given a 'master code' before I drove the car off the dealership's lot but how was I supposed to know? My heart sank when the service department at the dealership told me that it would cost me $250 for them to tell me the code (unfortunately for us, that's a lot of money). I requested that the service advisor I spoke with ask the service manager for a waiver of the fee.

I did find that if I put one key fob (chrome end down) in a slot in the console (under the arm rest), pressed the Start button (without stepping on the brake), waited a few seconds, then pressed the Start button again, switched key fobs and pressed the Start button a third time, the master code did not display but a screen came up that allowed me to reprogram the keyless entry code. Once I did that, it worked. Regardless, I'm still peeved that the dealership is arguing with me about the cost to give me a code that I already paid for.

Did you get a master code when you bought/leased your Mach E? Have you figured out a way to discover the master code without taking it to the dealership?

Are you talking about the code to unlock the door? It's printed on the Body Control Module in the passenger side footwell. It's a seven digit number. The first 5 are the master door code for the North American market. Other markets use a 7 digit code (which is why it has 7 digits even though we dummies in North America only use 5). 😁🐩

Can’t you also pull it up in sync?

Thank you very much - I was able to find the 'Key Code' (as it's labeled on the BCM) and it works. Still, I'm angry that the dealership would try to charge me $250 for such easily accessible information.

Dealers be dealers. Some are decent, some lazy, some sleazeballs. I haven't met many canine though. They'd be my favorite. 😁🐩

You should have received a plastic card (credit card size) with the code printed on it along with a graphic of the cars exterior keypad. I found mine in a bag with the second key fob. The card has codes on both sides, 5 for US and 7 for other markets. I keep mine with the cars paperwork in the office. Perhaps you stashed it in the manual or wallet or ? Sounds like the dealer could have been more helpful.

That is a sign that you may want to use a different dealership for service. Seems like about half are scoundrels, 25% are clueless, and 25% are good. Or somewhere thereabouts.

On the other hand the community here is fantastic.

PS, you may find the little code tag included in your original purchase/lease documents. I believe when the dealer receives the car, it is tucked into the driver’s visor. Some leave it there, some put it with the documentation. Still others may misplace it.

The card that has the code on it should have been shrink-wrapped facing outward at the back of the small packet of documents that comes with the car. A lot of dealers remove it from the packet and keep it under lock and key until a customer takes delivery. Some keep the whole packet under lock and key. Of course, sometimes they forget to get the card or packet out of the locked cabinet. Both of my MMEs had the card still shrink-wrapped in the packet. 😁🐩
