Costco has 2 portable chargers on sale this week. I am not familiar with the brand, but Costco usually carries quality products.

The 32A would be similar to the Ford Mobile Charger that comes with the car except that it is 240V only. This will require at least a 40A breaker (with an adapter) or better to have a 50A as it comes with a NEMA 14-50 (50A) plug like the Ford Mobile Charger.

The other is a 120/240V with a maximum charge rate of 16A at 240V. That means it will be half the speed of the Ford Mobile Charger when used at 16A on 240V. It has a NEMA 5-15 for 120V use. For 240V it has two fittings, NEMA 6-20 and NEMA 10-30. However, either of those will only run at 16A but gives you the option of plugging into a 20A or 30A outlet.

If that is the ChargePoint Home Flex (CPH50), you can adjust the output to match the circuit you plug into.

Technically any plug in charger is portable. However, the design intent of the units that are screwed to the wall is that they stay in one place.

Yes: At max current on your EVSE you'll also be at max current for the 50a campsite plug.
@JamieGeek: Doesn't the CharePoint Home Flex max out at 50A charging? Shouldn't you limit the EVSE to 40A when hooked to a 50A outlet?

I'm assuming when they say 50a they really mean 80% since they sell the unit with a 6-50 or a 14-50 already on it.

(e.g. "here is a charger with a 14-50 which can safely be used with a 14-50 when set to 50a")

Update: Guess not: specs sheet says 50amps...ok then don't do that LOL

Gotcha. So if you are using the one with the 6-50 or 14-50 plug installed, it defaults to 40A operation?

Good question don't know if it defaults and there is this interesting thing in the specs:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Costco Portable Charger Sale 1621269513797

So instead of using 80% they go the other way and say 125% (same thing just from "the other end").

As I recall, that's usually the way the NEC writes about circuit requirements as well.

The setup in the app asks for your breaker size then uses the 125% max load to set the output. I think I read what the default is if you don't use the app, but I don't recall.

EDIT: Greater than 40A output requires hardwiring.

That Accel 32 amp charger seems like a reasonable price.

Has anyone ever asked Ford to purchase a second Ford Mobile Charger?
If so, what is the price that Ford wants?

smp
That was recently discussed. I believe it was over $500, and they were out of stock.

Sorry to ask before searching... I thought that $500+ price was for the Ford hardwired EVSE, not for another Ford Mobile Charger.

If that $500+ cost is real, I guess I will be paying much more attention to other brand offerings!
