I'm in a weird spot right now. I submitted my order for my Mach E in March and got a build date of August 15. It currently is "in production", but the chip delay is likely holding this one up. I am living in a city (Austin) where driving is basically a necessity. My wife and I were mostly working from home, but more recently each need to commute about 15 minutes. We work different schedules and are also about 15 minutes apart.

We currently have one car. I put in the order for the Mach E back in March, hoping it would be here by July (hahaha) in anticipation of our dual-commute situation. If I knew my car was coming in 2-3 weeks, I could make it work in the short term. However, without an end date, and needing a vehicle now, I feel a little stuck. I'm debating between figuring out a two-month rental that isn't absurdly expensive or just scrapping my order altogether and buying something in inventory now. Ubers, just accounting for back and forth to work, would exceed $1100 in a month, not to mention other times we need two cars in the next few weeks. Any ideas on a solution to get us over the hump?

I want to reach out to my dealership and see if they would do some sort of loaner/rental thing for a few weeks, but that seems very unlikely.

I did check Turo, and am able to find a fiat 500e for about $900/month. It just seems like a bad deal, but maybe it's not that bad.

Hertz, Avis, etc. have monthly rates.

Note that renting a vehicle long term, since not a replacement for your vehicle (since it doesn't exist), may not be covered by your auto policy. Make sure you check.

Why not Enterprise. They do rentals for when people have cars in for repairs (accidents).

I guess my expectations are just wrong. When I do monthly searches at Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, they are all $1800-2200/month for the equivalent of a Chevy Spark. That's a hard pill to swallow.

In today's market that is not a bad price. I was pricing Turo for a Mustang in Hawaii, $100 - $150 per day.

I needed to get a rental for a week while my wifes car was at the shop a month ago... I couldn't believe the prices at around $700 a week for my personal cost. Luckily my company had an agreed rate I could use as a personal rental for $150 a week... You might check if your company has any agreements you could take advantage of.

We lucked out after I sold my Wife’s car way too early. Our local dealer allowed us to put 1500 miles on their Demo MME. The party came to an end after we got it up over 2000 miles and then they sold it! Lol

Buy a beater car for cheap and sell it when your MME gets here. What dealership are you using just out of curiosity?

Don't know what you are doing.

Austin, Texas. ~$850 a month via Hertz, rented in South Austin.

I understand. I gave up my lease in March(didn't know I should have bought it out, kept it and traded in) thinking I'd order the GTPE in April and it'd be around sometime in July/Aug. Little did I know my April order wouldn't be built until Sept, so I'm just hoping before Thanksgiving at this point. I've been without a car for a while. It did get to be a PITA and figured I'd look for a rental or something, like you are, and found the same thing you are... crazy rental prices. I did find some service called SwapALease. Signed up for that and found they aren't talking about 3mo, more like 2 years and they actually called me and laughed when I said I wanted maybe a 3 or 6mo lease. I left a message with my local Ford dealer too and never got a response back. Avis, Enterprise, National, etc... they were all around $2K/mo, so F' that. Thought about a beater in the meantime, but with the crazy prices of used cars, it's quite difficult to find anything affordable. I've given up at this point because I have the "luxury" of working from home for now, but I'm not sure what I'd do if I had to go to the office.

This situation is one reason online only ordering of cars is problematic until the delivery date can be guaranteed.
