So my teenager just got his permit and managed to break my charger off while still in the charging port. The charging port is fine, but the end of the charger has some small pieces of plastic that broke off (I had to fish them out of the charging port).
So now my charger is otherwise great but the handle has this damage. Seems a waste to replace the entire thing. I've found one online place that seems to repair handles (https://evdoctor4earth1.weebly.com/repairs--upgrades.html).
Any thoughts on getting the handle repaired/replaced?

It is an easy replacement in most cases. I have replaced 3 or 4 connectors so far. I think it is easier to replace the connector and cable as an assembly vs just the connector because sometimes the microswitch in the handle is uncooperative. Can still be done though.

Here's one on Amazon if you feel comfortable replacing it yourself.

Thanks both. I'm hoping I can open up the existing charger and just repair the plastic adapter- the plastic end seems the only bit that's broken. There are just the two small openings on the bottom of the J`771 adapter- is there an easy way to open this or do you just cut it off and attach the new adapter?
SnBGC, for replacing the cord, similarly I can't quite see how to open the body of the charger. Sorry for the remedial questions, just trying to avoid damaging the unit as a I try to repair. I'm reasonably handy, but not overly so. Thanks in advance

What brand and model EVSE are you using? They all aren't the same. Most are serviceable but not all.

Just the Ford mobile charger that came with the Mach E.
Oh crap. In that case you are probably better off just having it repaired professionally. You can buy your own off brand connector and take your chances but the cheap off brand equipment has been known to cause some problems from time to time.

Yeah, the off brand stuff can be kinda crappy. Brass connectors, low grade insulation etc.

The premium brand stuff is much better. Webasto makes pretty good stuff. Here are some photos of vandalized units. Notice the quality of the pins.....

Thanks all- I arranged to have it fixed professionally. Fingers crossed.
And the car was parked with the charger plugged in. My son came a little too close with our other car while pulling in to the driveway and somehow yanked the cord right out (at least that's what I am told; maybe the cord got tangled somehow? I don't know what to believe with teenagers- I was one once). Broke the charger handle tip, but no scratches on either car or charging door and the connector on the car end is fine.
Lucky I guess?

Thanks for the suggestions all

Clearly that happened because this EVSE does changing instead of charging. It changed the car's charging port into melted plastic. At least they can't say they didn't warn the user right on the front of the unit. ?
