Could Tesla’s Frunk issue on Model S be part of why Ford is careful with Frunk?

What amazes me that I'm seeing more and more on this forum is an OP makes a post that some take exception too and then jump all over the OP, posting snarky and downright nasty replies. Take a step back. Relax. Have a Happy New Year!
A lot of us spend hours upon hours trying to solve others problems in a factual manner. We dissect code, we tear down the vehicle all to aid others. We come here to learn, to educate each other.

When I, and many other people, see "Here is why" in a title we immediate assume there's something educational and factually accurate. So we jump in, hoping to learn something. It's quite different than a title "Do you think...?".

Another issue is that people don't search, which is probably the most common issue where an OP gets a ear full.

There is general forum etiquette. Part of that is that you should title things appropriately. Another part is that you search before asking. Another part is that you don't attack people, you challenge the ideas of the thread. I agree that calling people names and attacking them personally is wrong, but challenging facts is what forums are for.

Do you have factual evidence that tells me I’m wrong? Who makes you be arbiter of if I’m right or wrong. Want me to retitle to do “until DevSecOps says this is fact*?”

I appreciate you and your contributions but take issue with your accusation that I’m click baiting, I think my reaction score ratio shows I’m not. You broke your own rule of etiquette.

Not all of us are coders or have the tools to be digging in the data, and if that’s the bar to contribute, talk to the mods (or be one!) and take action your own way.

I have factual evidence that the hood latch (part listed here) is the exact same latch used on all trims of the MME. My GTPE and many other cars have a working Frunk Button in FP and in the car to release this latch. The difference is in the software as mentioned by others on this thread.

This has nothing to do with me... so you can leave me out of it. It has to do with a link you provided where Tesla vehicles have an issue where the latch mechanism is wearing at a data cable that is used for a rear view camera. This is specific to 2 variants of Tesla vehicles. It's a build issue with their cars. There's nothing that says that this is why Ford isn't enabling frunk release on the older vehicles.

My original post to you had a suggestion, not a command, demand or otherwise, to re-title the post so that you can encourage discourse instead of making an unsubstantiated claim. I don't think calling the post title "click bait" is an attack on you personally, but if you took it as such I apologize.

I thought it was more regulatory than willingly
yeah that’s right, but they also could’ve solved that by just finishing the software and enabling the electronic mechanism that is apparently bulletproof.

I guess that’s really my point: they clearly chose to keep it as just hardware pull early on instead of rushing to enable. Teslas mechanism is purely electric, and while it may take years to turn into an issue, I appreciate why that means being slow to the game.

It can also be true that it’s further delayed than originally planned due to OTA issues.

Thank you. Click baiting is inherently bad in a forum, so I did take it as a bit of a slight.

I have changed the title per your recommendation to be more specific.

Todd, you have added tremendous value to this forum and helped me personally. So I hate to disagree with you, but really I don't think the OP should have been criticized for the post. When I saw it, I assumed it was his opinion and not actually something factual.

The decorum observed by senior members of this forum may not be obvious to new members. Personally I came here because I gave up big tech social media, and this is my social media outlet now. So while I get that many use the forum for serving others with highly technical information exchanges, that is not all it is to everyone here.

I do agree that it is very frustrating for new members to post questions on topics that have been discussed a million times before, but even then I don't think we should be so critical. Point them at the information they need and maybe, one day, they will become valuable contributors to the forum.

Anyway, sorry to disagree and hope you have a great new year!

I was going to invite you to the New Years party, but I guess not anymore ?

Maybe it's a pet peeve when I'm lured into something I assumed to be educational and it's not. Anyway, he changed the title, which now I feel bad about... This isn't the way it's supposed to happen. I could have been nicer.

For everyone else, just because I help you doesn't mean you need to agree with me. If I'm wrong call me out on it. I don't hold grudges and I don't have anyone ignored. I appreciate the honesty.

I could have been nicer. No reason to be sorry. I like it when people disagree, to an extent. Debates are fun and if we all felt the same this world would be boring.
So about that frunk lol

Man it's getting slow on here when all we have to worry about is opening a frunk when we have a bag of groceries! ?

My reply wasn't directed at you specifically. There was another post that pushed me over the edge (quick one liner jab), but I did see a trend in the replies and comments to this thread that has discouraged and disappointed me on too many other threads.

You've helped me and countless others on this forum and I am very grateful for that.

https://www.theverge.com/2021/12/30/22859717/tesla-model-3-s-recall-trunk-latch-failure-nhtsa

“The Model S recall is particularly concerning because the issue affects the front trunk, which could obstruct the driver’s view of the road if it flies open while driving. In the affected Model S cars, “the front trunk latch assembly may be misaligned, preventing the secondary hood latch from engaging,” Tesla told NHTSA in an official filing.”

Remember that Hoods used to only be open for service. Not routine consumer use. Something that has worked for years may be stressed in a way that hasn’t been before. Hence, conservatism in how Ford handles the frunk.

Not an apologist for Ford being slow and over-promising, but Tesla has been at the Frunk game nearly as long as anyone else (With the exception of Porsche), and here we are.
I’m confused? I thought Tesla NEVER did recalls (not being sarcastic here).

Only when the gov requires them to I think. I’ve been happy to see Ford be proactive about recalls, like the glass roofs, they knew it used the same adhesive procedure as the windshield and just to be sure they noticed everyone even though they hadn’t had an incident as far as I know.
