I just put a deposit down for a Mach E GT from a cancelled order and live in one of the NE states. Will be delivered next month. No ADM. Albeit it's a 2021 model with production date 12/2021. Seeing that it already took three months to deliver a vehicle, the scary part about now is that the federal tax credits will likely start phasing out either in Q3 or Q4 of this year. Since some of the 2022 models just sold out on the website, it is likely that it may be even delivered next year. It relieves a lot of stress given the shortage (which will probably be exacerbated given the current energy crisis.)

I also ordered a Mach E Premium ER AWD two weeks ago, and was already told dealer had to call Ford to see if I were getting a 2022 or 2023. They also gave me a NE regional discount of $2k.

I had to search around to find a Mach E which wasn't getting an ADM. (Most of the new models nearby dealers had in stock were charging $10k ADMs, but I was able to find one that wasn't 20 miles away.) Given Russia's sanctions, increasing energy costs, increasing interest rates this year and the phase out of the fed tax credits, it is most likely that I will be overpaying if I got the car later this year. Good thing it was a 2021, because they were cheaper MSRP than the 2022 models, so the NE regional discount didn't do much for me.

In this case, patience may not be a virtue. Getting $3k off MSRP and waiting 10 months is probably not even worth it if you can get MSRP now and if you're financing and/or trading in your old vehicle (while trade in values are still high now, or even risking losing some of the federal tax credit.)

That being said, I would still not pay for an ADM, and search around some dealers who would not charge an ADM from a cancelled order.

Lol...well, if I couldn't find a dealership that didn't charge ADM, I might have paid that $550 markup. Most dealers that have them in stock around me are charging $7k-10k markup, even the 2021 models.

$350 for 2 year maintenance isn't too bad. That $200 window etching is waste though.

It's not so simple as you say though...if you cannot get the MME within the next 7 or 10 months, your federal tax credit reduces by $3750. Paying a $2000 ADM might be worth it to guarantee a car now. Plus, each month you drive the MME, you save on average about $80-100 in gasoline costs. There are so many factors to consider when purchasing a car.

Waiting ten months means I would have to throw away another $100 on extra gas costs per month, which amounts to another $1000 wasted.
Like I said it’s ok to pay a ADM if you need the car now. If you don’t need it ASAP it’s silly to pay the ADM. I ordered my car in January. I will have it by December. It costs $600 dollars to install a level 2 charging system. I don’t have to buy that now. I received a 2k regional discount plus I am buying at the x plan. 3k off sticker. I’m not in a rush. I’ll make 7k from buying out my lease and selling it when the Mach E comes in. If you are anxious for a new car, it’s ok to pay the ADM.

Agreed.

Except 1 part: what maintenance?

Maybe tell them to throw in a 3rd year of oil changes and it’s a deal!!

Supply and demand. Works both ways. When there were tons on the lot, we nickeled and dimed the dealers, and had them throw in floor mats and stuff. Now they have the upper hand. Just the way things work, don't have to like it, but its the way it is. When the situation gets better, remember the dealers that did you right when the could of screwed you over and give them your business, instead of going somewhere else to save $100 or 2.
This is what I keep arguing with “a certain segment of the EV community” about. If you’re going to grab a vehicle just anywhere, then sure the manufacturers should cut out the dealerships. But, if you actually want to build a relationship, the dealership model is great once you find the right dealer. I have purchased my last 2 cars from the same salesperson, always talk to the same service advisor, and recommended them both to people in my area. I payed sticker price minus A-plan for the Smurfmobile. Even when other dealerships in the area were adding ADM fees.

when Ford finally gets around to making a real electric Mustang, I will be buying it from Jerry Kraft at Suburban Ford of Waterford.

If you need a car asap, expect to pay over MSRP. If you are not in a rush for a vehicle, you can pay MSRP or less. As a reminder, if you have a leased vehicle now, it will be prudent to purchase that vehicle now and trade it at the time of purchase. You will make $$$ and you still have a nice car to drive. Time goes fast
