Do you care if the old school Mustang fan boys don't like your MME?
Not in the slightest. I laugh. I find it funny that someone can get themselves so bent out of shape over something they didn't purchase

I pretty much refer to my car as “The Mach-E“ regardless of my license plate. I guess I might be one of those a$$holes who will never accept it? ?? J/K ??

Make me think of Porsche.

Porsche is not a four door car! Now it is.

Porsche is not a SUV! Now it is.

Porsche is not electric! Now it is.

All are just called and accepted as Porsche.
Porsche created a new vehicle with a new name. That didn’t call that SUV a 911.

I am firmly in the “I’ll never consider my Mach-E a Mustang” camp.

Did you notice how GM didn’t make their electrified Corvette into a different type ofvehicle?

I know this has been discussed as nauseam, but we have yet another review (wired this time) which starts off with "THE NAME THROWS everybody." Yet they go on to say "Even transposed to a four-door SUV form, the Mach-E looks like a Mustang, with angular design elements carved into its swooping, curved bodywork and beefy haunches over the rear wheels". So...*looks* like a Mustang, but still not a Mustang.

Are we really still here debating this? So...how long before the Press / general public stop raising eyebrows at the name?

a) This year
b) Next Year
c) Eventually
d) Never

Review here: https://www.wired.com/review/ford-mustang-mach-e/
I always thought that when the Mustang II came out in the mid 70's, the "Mustang" that I knew of back in the 60's officially died.

I am the age now of not really caring what others think. In fact, I kind of wear it with a badge of honor.

I actually think it was a clever marketing scheme but I would have ordered an MME in any event. Mustang or no Mustang, Ford had exclusive rights to name it whatever they wished.

Corvette just announced today that they are coming out with an electric car. If you think the Mustang crowd is upset, just wait for the Corvette crowd..................................

Last summer at a family dinner the Mach E came up in a discussion. My sister actually said, "What makes it a Mustang?" The way she said it made me feel like she hated it. It'll be interesting to see her reaction when I roll up in one later this summer (I haven't told my family I'm getting it).

This has been my experience as well. I had a guy stop me as my family was coming out of a restaurant and talk to me about my car. We chatted for a good 20 minutes and he kept talking about how "exotic" it looked. There were other nice cars in the parking lot, but he crossed it to come talk to me when he saw me walking towards it.

Another response to the "not a Mustang crowd" is that it is an "adult Mustang". Something mature people can get into the back seat of.
Though, I will admit that I had the same reaction when I first saw pictures of Mach-Es. Thought they should have called it a Thunderbird. Then it was explained that there were other factors. Like Ford was trying to phase out their sedans, etc. Only SUVs/CUVs/etc. and Mustangs would remain.
On the other hand, it is a more exciting looking machine than a Tesla. I still enjoy answering the friendly questions I get.

A while. To be honest as a lifelong “car guy” it’s pretty tough for me to defend the Mach-E as a Mustang.
That’s not a knock on either car…it’s just that a Mustang brings to mind a roaring V-8 two-door coupe and the Mach-E just isn’t that. Square ain’t a circle, etc.

When my MME arrives, it will be my third Mustang. I am keeping my current one.
I was not irked when ford introduced the MME at all. I think in 2 generations the 'mustang' name will be dropped and it will only be marketed as the Mach-E.
To the people that are upset with the name, don't buy it. There are plenty of others who are buying.
