Just noticed this on my 1000 mile, 1 month old GT PE. Seems to me like the right plastic panel sitting on the rear windscreen was rubbing on the plastic piece in the center, causing paint to come off at its edges. Are factory fitment issues common for the Mach E?

Full disclosure: I've only had full body PPF done on the car since I took delivery. Could it be that the film installer removed the plastic panel to install the film, and failed to reinstall it correctly, thus causing the issue?

Here's how it looks like from the side. Comparing the left and right side, you can tell that the right side with the issue sits further out from the rear windscreen than the left.

I’m not seeing where the paint is being removed. Can you circle it in the picture?

But yes, absolutely could be when the installer removed and reinstalled.

What are the chances the installer thought that was a molded in color piece and used a razor blade when trimming the PPF?

I just remembered that the PPF they installed were computer cut and that it says on the receipt I got from the service that they do not take out any parts of the car in installing the film.

Here's the pic of the part that was damaged:

That would be a possibility if both the panels sit the same way. Because both right and left panels are not sitting the same as they relate to the center piece, it opens up the possibility that it was friction (from the misaligned parts) that caused the wear instead.

The PPF was also computer cut and there seems to me no logical reason why one should remove a piece to install something that was pre-cut. Plus, if you look carefully at the damaged area circled above, the film install sits far away from the edge that was damaged. Supporting the hypothesis that friction caused the issue is that is reciprocrating friction damage on the edge of the center piece as well.

I had to go out and look at my car to see what we are looking at.

That plastic piece can move back and forth by hand, but doesn’t look like enough to rub.

Even “pre-cut” pieces are typically larger than the area they cover and have to be trimmed. It is possible the installer just knicked that spot with a knife.

It’s also possible yours is rubbing. Try moving it back and forth to see if it rubs and that’ll answer the question.

I tried moving the piece and it does move closer to the center than the other piece on the left. Using my fingers to trace the piece to the center, I did notice as well that it was sitting on the rear windscreen differently that the left piece.

Check out the friction damage on the center piece. If a knife caused the damage, it seems unlikely that it would damage both the right and center piece as well:

Just put in a request today with Ford for warranty. They took pictures, VIN number and contact and will get back to me with details. Will keep this thread updated as I get news.

Just got a call from the dealership about the replacement part for the damaged area. Surprisingly, the entire piece of plastic sitting on top of the rear window is one piece. Looks like Ford's been missing out on some QC in their assembly lines.
