Trying to determine optimal charger install location. Mme will be arriving in November, and will have the charger installed prior. Thinking of a chargepoint flex. Upper Midwest.

Current car in garage positioning is my wife pulls in hood first, opens driver door to the middle aisle between cars. I typically back in, allowing me to also exit the middle aisle. Just more room that way.

my concern is does anyone have kids get close with their doors on the other car to the charging cable/door on the MME if I keep doing the same car position as above? Not really confident My SO would be able to back either car in, unless I paint lines on the floor for lining things up.

Went through all this same dilemma and analysis as well, this was my drawing I used to show electricians why I wanted it there and not immediately on the breaker box wall.

Also since my daughter driving the Ranger doesn't always use the laser parking system I installed, I worry she may door ding my white F150 with red paint, so I got these door edge strips for her driver door: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z7DFNL3

You'll want to consider before making final decision, that your car situation may change in the future. With a (probable) 20-25' cord you can cross over 1 car width but 2 will put a lot of strain on the port if it reaches at all. For example with my (Ranger driving) daughter off to college my wife may want to park the Mach on the right side so I needed the charge cord to reach there as well. Or a 2nd EV may be in our future, who knows.

Thanks for the detail. You’ve made me consider my third stall, however it’s shorter than my double stall. It’d be tight, but a potential. Cringing at likely disaster in using half of the double stall for storage, snowblower, etc. What is the height of the trunk/hatch when opened, making sure it clears some overhead racks when pulled in.

edit: good call on the door edging, another good option with younger kids.

In all, first world problems.

One thing to consider is foot traffic past the charging door. If someone were to snag it as they pass by it could leave a dent in the car not to mention get damaged itself.

Are you getting a manual or power lift gate? If premium or gt, you can set the lift gate height with a button. I don't know the height on a manual but I'm sure someone here will!

We used to use the 3rd small stall for storage (bikes and other shelves) but our HOA forces all stalls to be occupied before being allowed to park in the driveway. So we have to pack in like sardines and i had to get a shed for the bikes and tools! Crazy rules here, man

Premium, but my worry is some software update will cancel the set lift height.

luckily, our HOA isn’t that bad.

Thanks, I agree, and that is another concern. I’ve seen some have an accessory to brace the door from damage while open for charging, but would like to avoid that I think….

An advantage to backing your car into wherever you decide to put it is that the tow points are only accessible in the front, so if the car ever needs to be towed out of the garage, there will be no extra drama...
