Has anyone else out there had this issue, where the throttle is released, but car continues to accelerate at full power. Only way to stop is huge pressure on brake pedal, using abs to come to standstill. FordUK tech has been investigating since Aug 21. Vehicle is GT variant. Appreciate your comments - opo not used now!!!

Nope, are you sure this wasn’t floor mat pedal entrapment? Do you use any aftermarket floor mats?

I drive exclusively in 1PD and have for about a year and a half now. The only time I’ve seen a similar thing happen was when I was 1) in Unbridle, 2) driving with adaptive cruise control turned on, 3) slowed by another vehicle ahead of me, and 4) I manually accelerate to change lanes, then let go of the accelerator, having momentarily forgotten I was in adaptive cruise, which then wanted to go quickly (due to Unbridle) to the previously set limit.

That’s a very long set of IF THIS conditions, so I’m guessing it’s not what you saw, but otherwise Iā€˜m afraid I haven’t seen what you’re mentioning.

Is it possible it was due to speed limit sign recognition?

Have you been driving it since then? That’s a really bad failure especially in a vehicle with as much power as a GT, glad you are ok and were able to control it.

My thoughts are aligned with @JohnnyForensic's...did you inadvertently enable cruise control while it was set to a higher speed than you were at?

I have had a similar problem previously discussed by others here when I accidentally set the cruise control by brushing the corresponding button on the steering wheel with my left hand and not realizing it.. Upon lifting my foot from the accelerator the car speeds then up when I expect it to slow down.

Not to this extent, but I usually have my car in unbridle and when I get in and it for some reason the car sets my profile to guest it changes the settings to whisper which will accelerate with my foot off the gas like an ICE car. In unbridled the regen brings it to a stop. So when this happens I almost drive into the wall of my garage before I realize I have to hit the brake.

I had this happen once. It was probably caused by me.

Full power?

Meaning you floored it, let off the throttle and it’s still going at full throttle?

Nope, never.

You sure it’s one pedal related?

I've not seen it either, but I seriously doubt what you're suggesting is it since the OP says

If it were cruise control, braking would immediately cancel it and the car should decelerate.

My guess is either operator error (Audi 5000 anyone?) or something seriously wrong with the car...

Morning

Thanks for all comments, which all have merits.

Just to clarify:

1) unbridled was active
2) I rarely use cruise control, but even if this was inadvertently activated, the brake pedal should have deactivated. I actually prefer speed limiter.
3) standard floor mats fitted.

Apart fromthis problem, would I buy again - yep

Cheers

You still didn’t answer what happened before the unintentional acceleration.

Were you cruising or did you floor it and let off?

Pulled away from junction, then released throttle, but it didn't want to play, and decided ro floor it!

From Ford Power Up Version History:

Have you had 2.7.3 update? Or see if dealer will do recall 22S29.

Mustang Mach-E2.7.3May 2022
  • Brake pedal feel is modified to allow for smoother braking
  • Some additional minor fine-tuning here and there
  • Addresses recall 22S41, to protect high-voltage battery components (contactors) from excessive heat generated during DC fast charging and repeated full throttle events [36][37]
  • Addresses recall 22S29 for applicable vehicles, fixing a software glitch that could potentially cause unintended acceleration, deceleration, or vehicle movement
