Glass roof proves tough in hail storm which damaged Mach-E body

Was out at the golf course today and a thunderstorm rolled through, which lead to golf ball sized hail falling down for the longest 5 to 10imites of my life! I was most worried about the panoramic roof of my Premium Ex4.

But as you can see from the photos below, the roof had no problem holding up! The hood, doors, side panels and rear wiper... Not so much. The plastic tail gate actually looks unscathed,too. Now onto my insurance company. Wish me luck on the turnaround time.

Dang. The irony I’d that while much messier, I’m pretty sure the glass roof breaking would be much less expensive to repair. (I discovered that years ago when I had the choice of kicking down a glass door or a wood door. Shoulda kicked down the glass one?)

Wow, that answers the question of whether the glass roof would break before the panels dent, and it’s clearly no…

I had a similar situation recently. Ended up being over 5k in damage. One dent on the hood left a crease which meant new paint. Was worth the 500 deductible. they also cleaned up a door ding that was driving me nuts. My insurance co said it wont affect my rates because it was an act of god (state farm). as for the 62k worth of damage to my house...i suspect i will get dropped after that claim.

if i walked outside and saw my car like that there is no way i wouldn't fall down to my knees. after collecting myself i'd have to mope around the house for at least two days sipping old fashioneds and eating steaks to try to cheer myself up.

I was lucky enough to have a baseball hit my glass roof when I was just driving by a baseball field, wasn't even parked!.. and no damage at all! So yeah the glass roof is tough just like windshields. I imagine if it was something pointy it would shatter.

Im lucky, I was in Lansing, and we didn’t get hit. However, the lawn service at work busted out my front passenger side window about a month ago. While it was a mess and an inconvenience, but the new window was in the next day and I was back in business. I still have glass rattling around in my door. Also still have a little paint repair that needs to be done.

Oddly enough, I have the opposite problem. Was unlucky enough to have a stone hit the roof. What started with small crack has grown to the front of the roof and back to about the door pillar on the left side . Will be taking it in next week to be replaced. $3500. Thankful for insurance!

Same experience here (I have a post from a few weeks ago). Very similar damage, all the glass fared well but mostly hood damage and a handful of dents on the body. I haven't taken it to get repaired yet, have almost got hit by another 2 major hailstorms since then so I figure I'll hold off a bit until hail season is over and everyone else has had their cars fixed.

There was a hailstorm in Rice Lake, WI a couple days ago with 1.75" hail. Windshields and back windows destroyed at the Ford dealer, but glass roof seems totally fine. I'm very impressed with the durability, it can survive hail up to 2 inches! Less damage than a metal roof!
