You decide to move the speed to the right of the center screen and replace it with a static car that does nothing?? How long did the Ford team sit in a meeting to come up with this idea?? Lets see.............what would drivers need more??? Their speed?? No..... I have a better idea..... how about a static car that does nothing!!?? Thats it! Brilliant. Why stop there?? Put like 5 or 10 cars on the screen and get rid of the speed altogether!! Who needs the speed anyway?? Are you aware that Mach E owners actually brought their car in for service thinking that something was wrong?? Thats how bad of an idea this is. I'm curious now if the team is in the denial phase or the acceptance phase of what a dumb idea this was. If you have moved on the the acceptance phase, when will this be made right? There are enough other issues to deal with but looking for the speed should not be one of them.

They moved all the speed information into one consistent place, this makes sense from a utility and design standpoint. They also intend to give everyone blue cruise and want to give people access to important sensor data like how close they are following or if the car feels you are leaving a lane. Absolute speed is not really that important and is why it was moved. The angst around this is absolutely mindboggling and this community does not need to stoop to the literal insanity that the tesla crowed brings.

I realize not everyone has blue cruise and lots of people "don't want to use the sensor data" but this isn't a legitimate argument because it's all meant for you to drive safer, having a speedometer in the middle of the display does not help as much as effectivly displaying all avilabile driving information effectively.

They have essentially moved from a dash created by a marketing person to one of actual utility so I can understand the emotion behind the change, the person who designed it was obviously good at their job.

I have come to accept that a Ford is not a Tesla. And a Tesla is not a Ford.

I can tell you that when Tesla updated their software from V10 (which was an absolute beauty of an interface) to V11 (which proved to be a disaster at all levels, so much so, that in the last two years, they rolled back many changes and made it V10-like again), the magnitude of backlash was much higher than what we are talking about here (assuming 6.8.0 which I have not gotten yet). Trust me, it could have been a lot worse. And this is the kind of change that is just so easy to roll back.

Do you work for Ford?? The speed was in one place when it was in the middle. It was consistent. It didn't move. Absolute speed is not really that important?? I'll quote you next time I get pulled over or the next time I'm going into a tight turn with a speed limit warning. You have to work for Ford. Your reasoning makes as much sense as Ford does.

Appreciate the perspective. Thank you.

I've used lane centering and had the speed on the right since the day I bought the car in 2021. It's certainly not a big deal, at least to me.
Appreciate the reply. If you ever had it in the center and live in an area where speed is often a factor I can tell you it was great. Especially when a newer driver to the vehicle was driving. It was much easier for them to acclimate to.

Why does my ICE car have a tach on one side and the speedo on the other?!?!?!
Put the speedo in the middle where I can see it, because looking to one side of the gauge cluster is unfathomable!!!! [sarc]

The hate for having the car in the middle and the speed on the side is really petty.

Don't you people use bluecruise and lane centering?!?!

I have never used BC....well once for about 10 seconds. I tried lane centering, but turned it off....it just doesnt do anything for me. I get in, sit down, shut up and hang on to the wheel. I like driving...a lot. I dont need the 'car' in the middle of the display; I'd prefer the ole speedo in the middle. But, I can see it just fine off to the right...and I am trying to move on but this keeps coming up and poking me on the forum. I'm old and admittedly annoyed with Ford for 'moving my cheese.'

IMO what Ford should have offered to the end users (us) is:
  • If you are not using BlueCruise or Lane Centering functions, default the speedometer to the center
  • Somewhat customizable dash displays either by allowing us to display something like the speedometer in the center or the right or the left. Or… have a few templates to allow the user to choose from. Think of how the 2024 Mustang allows the users to have different dashboard display choices.
I personally don’t use BlueCruise or lane center functions. Mostly drive city streets, but I can see this argument from both sides (speedometer center or right). I have always had it in the center until the recent update so just got used to it where it was.

Not to go completely off topic, but I do wish we had more customization on the main display. The scroll bar on the bottom where it shows recently visited apps IMO should be a spot we can favorite apps or functions to quickly access. Ford missed allowing us the customization for this functionality. ?

Bluecruise and lane centering worked just fine when the speed was in the middle. There was no need to move it to accommodate those things. Thank you for the feedback though.

To be fair, while I rather dislike the speedometer info over on the right side where it is obscured by the steering wheel, the car icon in the middle of the screen is not static unless you have all driver assistance features turned off. Those with 2023 models have been living with this since they got the cars as well.

While many like driving without any ADAS features, others use them at all times. I'd use them more if they worked the majority of the time, but around here they don't. An "easy" solution is to swap the car icon and the speed reading. Lane Centering, Lane Keeping, and distance following information are still available, while speed would be front and center.

I still haven't changed my mind about 6.8 and the always-there car icon. I'll not be downloading it.

No. Lane centering works on about 1/3 of the roads here. That means all flavors of BlueCruise won't work on 2/3 of the roads. And this is not a unique problem.
