Hmm, now I wonder if they used your car in a robbery.

Not like anyone would go buy a few hundred dollars of tequila in a stolen car, wreck the car and leave the booze and shoes.

BOLO for barefoot drunkards with missing hair covered in mud.
I told my insurance agent that I was worried about what crimes may have been committed in the car and the amount of diminished value a stolen car carries.

I have a feeling it was used for whatever illegal activity and then abandoned... and the further destruction inside the car possibly done by other people that found it first. Maybe even homeless using it as shelter/restroom?

In any case, it's super weird... and I do hope the insurance burns it to the ground.

Not a chance. The battery alone will likely fetch them $10 - $15k in the aftermarket. All of the drivetrain is presumably in perfect working order. Although some of it smelly, the damage is just superficial, so when this goes to insurance auction, I would guess it would get a decent amount of bidders. Just browse Copart and see the what listings for extremely totaled cars go far, it's insane what people will pay for almost completely destroyed cars, let alone one that just has a couple scrapes and bruises.

Or oyu could unbolt the frunk tub, glue something to the outside of the tub to hold the AirTag, then insert the airTag into the holding device and bolt the frunk tub back in. ??
Actually, I think hidden under the beauty covers would take care of it in most cases.

Does no one use " The Club" anymore?
I can't remember the last time I saw/heard of someone using "The Club". I found this tidbit on the internet:

"As part of our attempt to figure out where best to invest our design dollars, we hired some professional car thieves to provide a more hands-on perspective than us engineers had (well, maybe not all of us).

At some point, the Club was mentioned. The professional thieves laughed and exchanged knowing glances. What we knew was that the?Club is a hardened steel device that attaches to the steering wheel and the brake pedal to prevent steering and/or braking. What we found out was that a pro thief would carry a short piece of a hacksaw blade to cut through the plastic steering wheel in a couple seconds. They were then able to release The Club and use it to apply a huge amount of torque to the steering wheel and break the lock on the steering column (which most cars were already equipped with). The pro thieves actually sought out cars with The Club on them because they didn’t want to carry a long pry bar that was too hard to conceal. "

You can’t do much against “pro thieves” in any setting.

Good thing that most aren’t pros. Just lowlife scumbags high on drugs looking for the next score.

The kind that leave clothes, alcohol and feces behind.

That would be my guess as well. Though a bright yellow car is a bold choice for a getaway vehicle.

That camera damage looks like an assumption that one could be spying on the vehicle remotely or recording footage. If only Ford's technology was that sophisticated…

Can it really stop a thief sophisticated enough to hack a fob to steal a modern car? My guess it is only protected by a lock that someone can find a key for.

Very long time ago I used a lock for the pedals, and it was very inconvenient, and probably even more inconvenient to break.

Yes.

It can make them move on to the next, easier car to steal.

Thieves are people too…….and people are lazy. Quick and easy.

With time and tools, anyone can break into anything. But usually they look for the unlocked, open and easy stuff.

Did you see the battery SOC after they found it? I can just imagine the future press reporting on car thieves with range anxiety!
