Price has already begun shedding staff. She has fired or placed on leave experienced prosecutors and investigators. One veteran prosecutor who resigned bluntly stated that Price’s policies made it impossible to “adequately and ethically protect the rights of victims.”
I guess seeing someone get banned from this site for spewing politics on this very thread is not enough for some people. You guys just can’t help yourselves.

It's hard to correctly guess how thieves react to our precautions. I used to have an elderly Saab with a nice aftermarket radio. Someone broke in, using a hammer, and tried to pry the radio out. He failed, but left the radio inoperable. I carefully disassembled the unit, painstakingly soldered bridges across the broken traces on the cracked circuit board, and got the radio working again. It looked like crap, and its front panel was broken off. The tape head didn't work. But the radio and aux input worked and I thought I'd conquered the problem, having a stealth radio that no sane person would steal.

Around 6 months later, in the same parking lot, someone broke into the car, using a hammer, and stole the completely worthless busted radio. This time, he left the hammer on the floor. I still have the hammer, 30 years later.

I have never felt so anxious waiting for an update about a stolen car’s insurance outcome from a complete stranger!
Haha.....I feel this so hard. But the total stranger is my insurance agent who says they are now scheduled to go out tomorrow at 9am. So hopefully we'll both be less anxious then.

Hi Michelle, I'm not an insurance adjuster or anything close, but honestly with the scope of damage, including water damage, the age of the car, as well as the need for a complete interior, I simply cannot imagine an insurance company not totaling your car. I hope I'm right. And if they don't, remember that you can negotiate with your insurance company. Their first answer is just that.

Good luck. We all feel for you.

Relax Arthur, I’m not sure every such reference is political. Connecting dots between (1) the likelihood that one’s MMe will get stolen, and (2) the likelihood of active police assistance, seem directly related to the various preparatory measures MMe owners might consider taking (eg, AirTag, rfd blockers, etc) as referenced above.

Said another way, I’ve found the posts above to be informative as an MMe owner, and find you to be too politically sensitive.

Oh, I'm relaxed, Jeff. I had no problem with the OP complaining about the lack of police responsiveness to this incident and the other things you mentioned. I agree they were very helpful. But when that discussion leads to political finger-pointing and name-calling, I have a problem with that, as do many others. I knew I was opening myself up to criticism by calling it out, but I decided I didn't care. I was tired of that happening and it looked like we were headed for a blocked or deleted thread.

You're entitled to your opinion as to my reaction, but as I said elsewhere, I just didn't want to see this thread shut down as so many others have when they descend into political squabbling. If it had, we might no longer have access to all the information about those preparatory measures. That was my sole concern.

Insurance adjuster called me this a.m. she noted mold spores and mildew smell. Damage to the seats and standing water, along with all the other stuff I noted in earlier posts, she also said the undercarriage is cracked and there's damage around the battery. However they can't assess it completely until they can get the car on a lift. They can't get the car on a lift because it has no key and the dealerships machine in Livermore is broken so they had to order from another dealer. Keys arriving tomorrow. Dealership body shop quoted keys $1341, theft recovery inspection $265, the back bumper, quarter panels, parking sensors and cameras $9791. I'll learn the rest tomorrow or Wednesday, hopefully.

I hope that your insurance company gets this squared away quickly. ??

Based on the list of serious issues the insurance company told you, I am stunned they haven't already totaled it. Mold, mildew, standing water, cracked undercarriage, damage around the battery? I mean seriously - WTF? Once the dust settles on this, I would be interested to know what insurance company this is. I sincerely hope they do the right thing.
