Interesting article for Waze users...is Google pushing to pay for charging in the app and P&C support in the future?
The application will display charging station information if you drive an EV. Thanks to the Flash integration, Waze users will be able to reserve their parking spots directly from the app. However, the Flash partnership means this feature will be exclusive to users in the United States and Canada, so you won't get it if you live in Europe. The company promises to support over 30,000 parking garages in the largest cities in these countries.

Love the idea especially if I can reserve a charger in a parking garage close to the destination not sure what charging systems they will integrate with

Thanks for sharing. I use Waze all the time and I just went in there and set up everything. I’m new to the electric Mustang so the plugs I picked was the J1772 whatever that is and the CSS one and the Tesla once I get my adapter, you now one question would which charging stations besides Electrify America and Tesla would use select if Electrify America and Tesla are in your FordPass?

I thought I was reading in the article that once you enable it, it could take a few hours to kick in Apple map,I’m not familiar with that in the car you have the standard navigation and you have Google Maps is that what you’re talking about

The J1772 is for AC - aka SLOW - charging. On a road trip only use those at hotels where you can leave the car overnight.

You want DC - aka FAST - charging, which is CCS1 and Tesla Supercharger stations. Also, some DC (FAST) chargers are faster than others, so if you have the choice look for 150kw stations instead of older 50kw stations

Oh, I definitely would want the faster charging. I was just pointing out that when you go into the Waze app to set up that electric stuff it tells you to choose your plug options and I thought it would be better. Just pick all three or whichever.

As long as it doesn't ROUTE you to a J1772. Honestly the best strategy would be to only enable the CCS Tesla/NACS and when you're planning a route that includes a hotel then you can temporarily only enable J1772 while disabling CCS/NACS to find a hotel where you can charge it overnight. Many hotels offer free J1772, although they usually don't have many and often put them in prime spots so regular cars park in them.

Your better bet would be to use plugshare.com to find hotels for J1772 because there are reviews and ratings that tell you how reliable they are and how often they're blocked

That sounds like a plan. Also, I just was testing this. I went into the Waze app and I picked. Let’s say a place 100 miles from here. and once you say go now, there’s right in the route area where you click on the bottom of Waze you can pull that up and it shows a little electric cord and you click on that and for the hundred mile trip it just showed the charging station that’s by the mall south of me which the direction I have to go is north so I chose like a further destination like Macon Georgia, and it showed me all the chargers from Mobile to Montgomery all up that way Tesla Bradley Park, which is got like 12 chargers CSS one so I guess it will work. I guess you just have to choose that one. I don’t know if it put one of them on the map you choose you least. Pick

Just curious, a 500 mile trip with Waze you can only add one stop. I guess if you’re gonna put in a charging station then you have to start a new route to put in another stop. My question is how many miles would you go before charging your first time on a 500 mile, what’s the safe zone there?

I guess Waze has changed something because I swear whenever I’ve taken a trip you can always put in a stop and then you can put in another stop for instance from Florida to Michigan something like that you could put a stop and make in Georgia and then you could put a stop in Chicago And then it would show you the new estimated time to your final destination when you’re ready to get to your stops in between the only thing I see now is if you choose to go, let’s say from Mississippi to Macon, Georgia and do you wanna make a stop in between Montgomery, Alabama at Walmart to charge your car which is 243 miles away. That’s where the route ends now and then you have to start the route from the charge station. I just don’t know why they won’t let you put the different charge stations along the route , maybe that’s where the built-in is better does that work like that where it shows you every station in route once you set it up on the internal navigation of the Ford

The short answer to the question: when I go long distances I plan to stop when the battery gets down to 30% just in case there's a problem with that charger and I need to go to another one along the way. I am a pessimist, and would rather stop an extra time or two than potentially get stuck with a dead battery.

The long answer to your question is that I would plan a trip that long with "A better route planner" (abetterrouteplanner.com). I actually wrote a tutorial here that explains techniques for planning a trip and finding backups in case a station is down, although the user interface has changed some since then but you'll get the general idea.
