I've had the free connected navigation for the past three years but my free ride just expired. Im not completely clear on what I have lost yet. It appears I can't plan or program any trips from within the FordPass app now. I know I lose traffic and weather. Still trying to figure out if I can do route planning and accurate charging station info for those rare long trips. I'm thinking I may just hold out and pay the $80 when and if I head out on a long trip but may try without it to see what I really miss

I think you’ll lose updates to the map but you can still use it if it’s 80 bucks a year that’s worth it. I don’t know how much it is. Mine still free till 2027.

One of the things I'm curious about: Apple Maps and Google Maps both integrate fairly well with the Mach-E's nav, and now include special features for navigating to chargers. I wonder if anyone's tested yet to see if using Apple Maps/Google Maps to navigate to a charger will trigger preconditioning?

I doubt anything but the native navigation system will initiate preconditioning. I don't remember a test, but I am pretty sure I read it somewhere. Imperfect memory aside, I just doubt it will be a feature for quite a while. Maybe never.

I am interested to learn if preconditioning still works when you are not paying, and if it will still find/add and let you activate chargers. Those features are pretty important to me. Traffic is not, because I rely on The Google for that.

I guess I have never used that feature. How do you use the Built in NAV to precondition?

Apple maps will ad chargers but fro what I have seen its not very good. It doesn't provide any options for different chargers, nor does it give any info about the charger. I experimented with it tonight planning a trip from Long Island to Ticonderoga NY and it seems now to suddenly direct to the EVolve charging system which I had never heard of prior to this evening, and they are nothing but level 2 chargers it seems.

The car automatically does it when you navigate to a DCFC station. It starts about 20 miles away from the charger.

I guess I misunderstood what preconditioning is. I thought perconditioning was when you prewarm the car before taking it off the charger.

Not paying and there is now no "Charging" functionality. You can set your destination to the charger by address but the car knows not if it is a Walmart, Bucees or a charger.

Is there some sort of navigation or vehicle notification indicating that pre conditioning has begun within the 20ish miles from the DCFC?

That is "cabin" preconditioning. There is also "preparing for drive" which is battery preconditioning when plugged into L2 like at home. For DC fast charging preconditioning there are no messages. This area definitely needs improvements in messaging.

Nope. But others have figured it out via charging tests and monitoring outputs via OBD and I think Ford has confirmed it.

Retired. I'd say it was a mid life crisis, but not many people live to 140.

Apple Maps is Better
Apple seems to give more warning before a turn, which is good.

Something I dislike about Ford Nav is that it makes you pick from a number of choices after you tell it what you want.

If you are already moving, this is problematic.
