Attaching iPhone holder to main screen.

I’ve thought about this before along the lines of a cheapo’s dashcam, but couldn’t get around how it impacts forward visibility. The top edge of the infotainment screen is already just a teeny bit higher than I’d like, these things add another 1-3” to that height. Any lower, and I find that the steering wheel blocks the screen anyway, so I’m not really gaining anything. But maybe that’s just me.

The phone I use it for is a pretty light Galaxy S8 (?) with an attached metal ring, I don't know if it can hold a heavier model. The magnet is strong and works really well, but the adhesive to the back of the screen might not hold it.

I was walking by a Tesla the. other day and saw something like this:

(I don't know if it was this product, I just googled to get an image.)

The idea is that the iPhone holder attaches to the main screen and then holds the phone with a MagSafe connection.

The issue is, of course, the back of the MME screen isn't flat. (sigh.)

Is there anything like this for the MME?

I have one of those and bc the back of the screen isn't flat it keeps falling off. It'll last a week or two at most but the adhesive will fail due to insufficient contact.

How does it handle heat from the back of the display ?
I noticed mine gets warm and since I am in very warm climate year around like HI, would the display overheat ??

I was hoping there was a thread here that outlined all the things you see, but I'm hoping to have real-time feedback on battery use. (in/out.) It was something the Clarity had that I miss.

I haven’t had any issues with overheating the main screen, with or without this storage thing. With that said, we live in upcountry Hawaii Island, temperatures are brutally mild here — think Santa Barbara or Monterey on the coast. Except for the UV. That’s brutal here.

Kind of looks like a rip of the ProClip version (though I can't say which came first in this case). They're not identical, but vehicle specific mounts like that have been ProClip's thing for as long as I can remember.

I wonder if some well-placed foam tape would solve some of it? You can get some down to like 1/16" or maybe less.

I have some thin gel tape is was going to use. Should hav been nice if they had lined the inside and bottom with felt or similar though.

I have the charging version of this. The magnet is super secure, but it doesn’t work well as a charger. I have a mag safe charger at home that works great through the case, but this one isn’t strong enough to add much juice with the case on.
