I brought a USB drive with a book to listen to on our trip in our Lightning. We just tried to play it and I can't find the option to do so. It looks like the ability to play music and/or audio books off a USB is either gone or well-hidden. I've dug through the app and control options and can't find it anywhere. While I'm in our Lightning, I figure the same problem must exist in the Mach E.

I checked the online manual and it basically says the same thing the print manual does:

Has anyone figured out where they moved this feature since PowerUp 4.1.2?

That’s sort of the problem. Just like @ChasingCoral, there’s no usb icon to press even when a usb drive is plugged in, only a media icon which does nothing.

Holy guacamole, Batman! I use my USB for music almost every day. I thought the tiny tiles would be annoying, but the loss of the USB is much worse. Definitely not in a hurry to get 4.1.2 now! I hope someone figures this out!

Don’t know that this is universal with the new UI. I honestly rarely use a usb drive for music or anything else. I only tried it after @ChasingCoral mentioned it elsewhere. As a control, the usb drive plays music on both my pc and on our 2020 Raptor.

I've long since given up on listening to radio stations, I have a 512Gig USB stick in my Mach E with over 12,800 songs. Sounds like I need to disable updates.

OK, never mind. This morning when I started the truck the USB was there (MC-32GB). I had done nothing all but stop the truck for the night. Classic. We're listening to the book now.

I have a similar problem after 4.x updates. Only one USB media icon at a time. If I plug in more than one usb drive only one shows up until I remove the 2nd one and reboot sync. Once a second one is plugged in, they all need to come out, reboot sync and put only one back in to work. Prior to this I had no such problem and could see both icons for the two usb inputs if populated with media. Very odd bug. Dealer will probably shrug and try a master reset. ugh.

edit 2/9--Ford is now aware of this bug and trying to patch my car at the dealer. patch didn't really help. still messed up.

Cannot find USB icon anywhere after connecting to various devices. It only wants phones

Thanks Mike for the reply but I’ve tabbed the media icon many times and the next screen just doesn’t have any option for USB. Just lists our two phones which are turned off or nowhere near the car. I’ve tried various devices and USB A and C cords thinking perhaps the Mach E wants a certain type of signal but that makes no sense. With one of my high-end music players, I found the MME listed in its Bluetooth menu, connected it but the MME would not follow through with hookup. Of course CarPlay does work fine with iPhone but I would prefer to NOT have my phones involved. I am no troglodyte to technology but am not a guy who lives with a cellphone constantly

Strange. I would try rebooting Sync, but that probably won't fix it. You might need to visit the dealer. Gasp! But seriously, there could be some module updates that might fix it. You could ask them to apply all the open updates in FDRS. Dealers don't like to do it, but if you have a problem, they can use the problem to bill Ford. Assuming you car is still under warranty.

Had some time to kill while parked waiting for passengers to arrive. Right out of nowhere, my Astell & Kern high res player finally waded through the Bluetooth ether and connected with the MME. No idea why since I'd tried many times prior but I'll take it! Of course the music menu is not on MME to manipulate other than the forward and back arrows but given that there is almost 600gb of tunes I don't mind the MME not having to load the material in reserve. Just play what I tell the player to play and it does sound killer. I've connected a ton of Bluetooth devices on a slew of players, speakers, phones, amps, headsets etc so I don't know why the Ford software is so wonky. Would still LOVE to have an AUX in jack (old school but best sound). And the MME still refuses to acknowledge anything I plug into the USB ports other than to allow charging.
Before I get lambasted with "why not just use your phone" I submit there are those of us who have serious music banked on various players and also those of us who LOVE turning off the damn phone for a few hours and cruising in our cool MME's.

I ran into the same problem last year when we were listening to an audiobook off a flash drive. Some days it was there, some days it wasn't. We couldn't figure out any rhyme or reason.

A little update on the lack of USB connection on my 2024 MM. Got it to recognize Bluetooth connectivity finally to CarPlay and also my Astell&Kern hi-res player. But after trying five various USB cords-no dice. But…ordered a charge and sync cable from Crutchfield for a totally different purpose and tried in MME and wala! It worked!
was able to access music library from iphone and iPad.
SCOSCHE Strikeline USB-C TO LIGHTNING Ci44WG-SP.
Go figure…..I tried other high transmission cables without success but this one works.
