Taking my GTPE to the track for the first time. What should I know?

I've never owned an EV before this one. Also never gone to a track, but my friends keep telling me I will have a blast and I should really get to know how to drive this thing to its limit, or as close to its limit as I can!

I'm curious, should I charge the battery to 100% before this? Obviously I should probably unload anything that's free floating in the car. Anything I should do to the car beforehand? Obviously hand wash it so it both goes faster and looks prettier. :)

Also just happy to hear your stories of racing this car!

Yes. Charge to 100%. Also make sure there is a charger close enough to the track so you can charge before and after the track day.
Use Unbridle Extended.
I don’t know what you should set your cold PSI to, but I would start with 35, and monitor after each session. I think 45 PSI hot is good.

I will be interested in the comments, curious about the 5 second 'thing' in relation to being on track...

Need more details- Which track? How long is the course?

Definitely want as high of a charge as possible and plenty of time to cool down between runs.

Some people on short AutoX courses were faster without unbridle extend, but for anything longer than say 30 seconds a lap you’ll want to use extend. Make sure your tire pressure is good.

Might want to leave traction and stability control on at first if this is your first time.

Details are that I'm basically taking this course: https://proformanceracingschool.com/event/one-day-high-performance-189/

It's being held at Pacific Raceways in Kent Washington.

I honestly don't know the length of the course - I've never done any racing before.

Good tips about tire pressure and unbridled extend!

Hmm. https://pacificraceways.com/road-race/

2.25 mile track. Sounds like an all day event where you will likely be doing many laps.

Your issue for sure will be range and charge level. You will lose performance as your charge gets lower and don’t forget to leave enough charge to get home!

Looks like a blast but you may not be able to finish the day out in your car. I would consider renting their car for the day.

Also, I would DEFINITELY call the track to see if they even allow electric cars on the track. Some do not.

Thanks! FWIW half the day is dry-land training from what I understand, and the other half is the actual racing.

I've heard electric cars are fine there from friends, but good call - I'll reach out to verify. I'd rather not rent one of their cars because the idea is that I want to learn how to push this car, not some other car. :)

Sounds like OP should be fine here but this is definitely a real thing. Some ban EVs just from a safety perspective and not having proper gear to deal with a potential battery fire or other issue.

That’s a fun track. Definitely look into The Ridge in Shelton. It’s by far my favorite in the PNW. Very well maintained surface compared to Pacific. Also faster.

I’m not familiar with that company. I hope they walk the track with you guys. If you get a chance, go early and spend 30 minutes walking the track. That way you know what to expect. With a little experience you can see the lines you want to take around the track. I’m sure they will show you the lines before letting you loose on the track.

Unbridled Extend for sure but if that refuses to engage (others have encountered this too) turn off all traction control. There’s ABS chatter on sharp turns with traction on and you want your back to slide out too. Just remember your car is heavy and you will be squealing your tires.

Efficiency will be sub 1.0 mi / kWh. You will need all the charge you can get.
