Installing now in 22 non EA
Sponsored
Let's hope! I almost got it last year when it was *supposed* to roll out - I got 2 out of the 3 updates that were supposed to install it, then they postponed it until now.Our MME is a 2022 AW premium and we have been waiting for the BC 1.3 for many months! Maybe it will happen now. One can only hope.
My install said up to 90 minutes but only took about 40ish. Just a short test and lane change is pretty smooth , does not hug the right lane line. I don’t use BC enough, nor drive long enough to characterize the stability.Update:
The update said it would take 70 minutes, but it was done in about 30.
1.3 is amazing! I can't really add much to what other reviewers have said, but for those that want another opinion:
- I'm used to having to do a routine when I start it, where I spend a few seconds letting it find the right lane first, but now it just snaps to center and stays there.
- It's way more stable. I tested it at sundown in busy traffic, and 1.0 is so poor in those conditions that I usually leave it off, but I had only a single disengagment this time. (I had it do a lane change onto a rough patch, and it seems the road disturbed the steering enough to trigger a "driver interruption" disengage.)
- It seems to handle difficult terrain better - there were bridges and sharp turns where I could tell you exactly where it always cut out, but it handles those just fine now.
- It's a lot smoother, even in Unbridle. 1.0 was pretty jerky, especially when other drivers cut you off, but it responded to those kinds of situations well. Not perfect, but well, at least enough that I didn't feel a need to step in.
- In-lane maneuvering makes me way more comfortable, especially around oversized vehicles.
I was also very concerned how the lane changes worked, and how safe they were. First impressions of where it will or won't work:
- Regular, open lane changes were very smooth and reliable.
- If another vehicle was in the way, it would wait for them to move out just a little past your blind spots, then merge. It wouldn't accelerate or slow down to make the merge, and if the lane didn't open up within 6 seconds or so, it would time out. It won't merge bumper-to-bumper with other vehicles, so you'll have to hope other drivers have proper following distances (a rarity where I live), or they let you in, else you'll just have to merge manually in heavy traffic.
- It illegally crossed a double white line into the HOV lane, but it wouldn't cross a yellow line.
- It could tell the difference between a lane and a shoulder, and wouldn't merge into the shoulder. (It would signal until timing out with a "lane not open" error).
- It will guide you into an exit-only lane, but won't turn off if it's just a straight off-ramp.
All in all, I still wouldn't pay $80/month for it, but the $200/year I would definitely pay for.
2021 owners* unless this is satire lolAll I can say is, it’s about damned time those poor 2022 owners are getting upgraded. They should definitely be first in line.
Nothing here! Thanks for the heads up! Downloading and installing now! 2022 non-EA
Where do you see a $200/year option?Update:

My memory is a little fuzzy, but IIRC '21 and '22 models were advertised with a $600/3 year renewal after their trial ends, and AFAIK Ford is honoring that deal. I probably should have been more specific.Where do you see a $200/year option?
AFAIK sadly that applies only to Job 1 2021s. For the rest of us Ford wasn’t $800/year, which I (and most others?) think is absurd, especially since they’re a year late with 1.3 so who knows when the next update will ever be?My memory is a little fuzzy, but IIRC '21 and '22 models were advertised with a $600/3 year renewal after their trial ends, and AFAIK Ford is honoring that deal. I’m right behind you with my early 22.Yup.
It’s us job 2 2021 people who are getting hosed.
We paid $1900 for the hardware that others got for FREE and we have to pay the same $800/yr??
Plus we will get 1.3 just in time for our 3 yr BC subscription to run out….
