Nothing like swinging into the 7Eleven for a few gallons of diesel. I get some looks, but no one has asked me what I was doing there.

It is actually diesel. Can is a couple years old but still intact. Hard to see in photo, but I do wrap it in a towel for the half-mile drive back to the barn. No leaks and almost no smell.

Standard annual registration. There’s an additional fee added for the privilege of never buying gas but it’s pretty small. Registration also requires a current safety check which is also annual, based on the date of sale. The safety check is fairly basic but on EVs it also includes the back up aural alert (beeping in our case) and the low speed alert. I get mine done at a shop that does just those and nothing else.

An EV can get non EV plates under two circumstances:

1. Personalized plates.
2. Specialty plates: veteran, Volcanoes National Park, Polynesian Voyaging Society, or Handicapped.

Having any of those plates forfeits all EV plate benefits which only matter on Oahu anyway. Still annual. I have the Polynesian Voyaging Society plates. They look cool and a portion of the fee benefits the society.

If the person is military they are not required to register their vehicle in the state where they are stationed. They can generally maintain vehicle registration in their state of residence which is usually where they signed up.

Pretty much every state waives those requirements for military personnel.
