Hi folks, We're driving from Oakland to Long Beach for Christmas and planning on Rte 5. I want to know if anyone has experience charging in Kettleman City or has any recommendations for charging at the halfway point. I DO NOT have a Tesla adaptor, so it would be CCS charger only.

All recommendations welcome, even if it's a different route (NOT route 1).

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidaze!

I see 10 chargers at Electrify America Chalios Mexican Restaurant. 33225 Hubert Way. Currently all operating at .56/kwh. Safe travels. Use Sync to map it and precondition if necessary

Kettleman usually good, but very popular, as I'm writing I see that only 2 available out of 10 :(, but keep in mind EVRange charger that is near motel there.

I personally do not like Lost hill, but right now app shows 4 out 4 working and available.
Panoche Shell another popular spot,.

Enos Lane Bakersfield looks not good only 3 working chargers, 1 down.

in other words you will have to watch at EA app during trip and be ready to adjust. Grapevine usually takes about 20-30% of battery, do not be scared when you will go up, regen during downhill usually put back good number of electrons :)

Stevenson Ranch EA usually sucks - busy or/and broken.

inside LA be ready to have EvGo as alternative since a lot of entitled to EA EVs will stay in line for free juice.

NACS adapter definitely makes I-5 drive worry free:
There are 4 locations with 50+ chargers each. The rest stops the number going 12-20.
Please note that Tejon Ranch outlets Tesla SC closing at night

I-5 is peppered with charging stations. You shouldn't have any trouble.

I like Kettleman City. There are a total of 14 CCS1 plugs: The 10 EA plugs, which can get busy depending on the time of day, and four at a nearby hotel (also 350 kW). I've never used the ones at the Quality Inn.

Harris Ranch also has 6 EA plugs.

You should only need one charging stop to get into the valley, but if you need a second, there are several EA 350kw stations in Santa Clarita.

I wouldn't bring a cheap knockoff adapter within 100 meters of my Mustang. A2ZEV would be a better buy, and you may be able to get rush shipping.

You'll have a lot more plugs available if you have an adapter, and since the 5 is always busy during the holidays, I would probably try getting one from A2Z.

The Ford or Apple navigation apps do a decent job at adding charge points at the right locations as needed, so shouldn’t need to pre plan stops. You are at a disadvantage without the Tesla adapter because there is a huge supercharger at Kettleman City that is always empty when I’ve been there. There are a few non Tesla chargers at Harris Ranch further North that make a good stopping spot for bathrooms and food.

Same with Android Auto. I haven't been impressed with Ford's charger choices. Android has done a decent job for us.

If it happens to be cold the week you go to Long Beach your starting range from Oakland will be significantly less. I usually stop at Harris Ranch or Kettleman City. Kettleman City is better on the way down in that you have less distance to travel from there to Long Beach.. Also use apps to check how many charging stations are open.

I'd just spend the $'s and order the A2Z or Lectron J3400/CCS1 adapter for the additional piece of mind of being able to use the available Superchargers.

I researched Kettleman city and there seem to be quite a few CCS chargers. Thanks!
