Direct Quote, "Politics aside, I will never buy a vehicle from China." I was under the impression that you never would buy a vehicle from China? I am guessing you didn't know that at the time then?

Unfortunately, the future landscape here in the States may get steamrolled by the competition abroad in regard to EV's and your choices may evaporate here.

Tesla is making/has a HUGE footprint in China with EV technology and all that goes with it.

It reminds me of when Japan saw the writing on the wall back in the late 70's. The "Big 3" thought we could compete having the Citation and the like but they were no match for the Celica, Civic and other cars that were made much, much better.

It almost caused the Big 3 to fold. Musk (i.e. China) is waiting in the wing to swoop in and many people here think that Tesla is an "American" car. It kind of reminds me of what else people currently "bought into" thinking the man (that was selected in Nov.) was going to go to bat for them but I digress.

Heck, the name "Tesla" is from what is now known as Croatia and Musk is from Africa and 90% of the parts come from China yet many people think it is an "American" made car simply because 40% of them are assembled here?
Dude, you are one of those literal ass types I see. OK, let me clarify. I will never buy from a Chinese *COMPANY*. As you likely know it is nearly impossible to purchase anything containing electronics and with no Chinese parts, including our Fords. But the company is American. That is the difference that escapes you. And I will never own another Tesla because of Musk and because the car was a maintenance nightmare, not because of Chinese parts. Better?

So why won't you buy a car from a Chinese Company if you were willing to buy a car that has 90% of its parts (not just the electronics etc.) made in China but merely assembled here in the States?

I would venture to say the very thing that you will use to reply to this post is not "American Made" but rather made in China (chance more likely than not). Btw, if you like you phone or computer the EV from China is so closely connected to that tech.

Riddle me that..............

Parts from China vs Chinese owned (and government controlled) company is more than merely semantics.

Agreed. My wife really liked the Lincoln Nautilus - but when I saw that the car was designed and built completely in China I shut that idea right down.

Here is something to consider (and something you don’t get from just parts from China):

https://slotkin.house.gov/media/pre...0markets,and%20even%20locate%20specific%20U.S

“said Slotkin, a former CIA analyst and Pentagon official. “If allowed into our markets, Chinese connected vehicles offer the Chinese government a treasure trove of valuable intelligence on the United States, including the potential to collect information on our military bases, critical infrastructure like the power grid and traffic systems, and even locate specific U.S leaders should they so choose.”

These aren’t just conspiracy theories either. Chinese built cars HAVE to share data with the Chinese government by law:
https://www.pillsburylaw.com/en/news-and-insights/china-regulation-on-automobile-data-security.html

And it’s not just cars they’re spying through. They’ve been buying up land near our military bases for years:
https://nypost.com/2024/06/20/us-news/chinese-owned-farmland-next-to-19-us-military-bases/

So yeah, I have concerns over Chinese built cars in the US.

Do you have concerns with Tesla?

Whether they are assembled here or in China would be fairly irrelevant (which 60% of them are currently made)? If they have the potential to "spy", it would be like having either a person from China or a person from the US to place a spy camera in your house.

A spy camera would be used and the person "assembling" it could/would have no clue?

And what about the phones and computers?

We had the same experience with the Polestar.

I am not concerned about spying. You obviously have an agenda, so you do you and I'll do me. Komrade.

I don't have an agenda but more curious of why you seem to speak in "double tongue"?

I will "do me". It seems to be less conflicting.

I am in absolute agreement with congresswoman Slotkin on this and have been trying to make this point for years!

Looks too much like a Model 3/Y egg for my tastes.
That’s probably the first on point statement in several pages.

it looks less teardrop than either of those, but that doesn’t make it stylish or have appealing lines.
