Should changing the radio station be this slow?

Over in another thread about the 2025 MY I said I wouldn't buy a new Mach-E until Ford fixes the slow GUI. I explained that it was taking maybe 5 seconds to switch to a radio station. Then someone mentioned theirs only takes 0.2 seconds. So I took a video to more accurately measure the time I'm experiencing and it turns out to be closer to 8 seconds (see video below: start switch at 2 sec and station audio finally heard at 10 sec).

Is this normal? Or do I have a defective component?

If it’s an HD station, sometimes it’ll take 5 seconds to latch on and buffer. Non-HD stations are super quick (a second or less). In this for HD stations or standard? That’s the big difference. My Honda Pilot is the same with HD stations / it’ll take 5-10 seconds depending on the signal strength.

When you first start the car, it's closer to 30 seconds to even get the radio app to load.

It's not clear, but is this video from a 2025 or earlier model? I keep seeing 2025 has a new infotainment processor but if this is a 2025 then I'll determine that is a lie.

It doesn't seem to matter as I have tried both. If you watch the video carefully you'll notice that the majority of the time is spent switching and drawing screens.

MY23 here, switching between radio stations seems fast for me it never bothered me. There is about a 5-7 second delay going from CarPlay to the radio app just getting it to load

Mine is not that slow... it is too slow but not this bad.

note to Ford lurkers... PLEASE push for specking the fastest processors available... these things will be around for years and the software always gets heavier. the UI is WAY under specked even for a 5 year old design.

Mine is “sluggish” upon first start up. Once the audio app is running and stabilized, changing stations (including SiriusXM) is pretty snappy. What I don’t like is when you have to “switch to Internet” for SiriusXM and the internet broadcast is about 5 minutes behind the terrestrial/satellite broadcast. But I suspect that’s purely a SiriusXM thing.

Yes, one of my major gripes with the vehicle is that it takes 10 seconds to change the radio station. It should not take that long to load a page full of text.

I think that's how it is for all of us.
  1. Changing terrestrial radio stations is always instantaneous. (Dunno about satellite, don't use it.)
  2. Loading the radio app onto the 15" touchscreen is painfully slow - as much as 10 seconds - but only when the car is first started. Loading any other app - navigation, Android Auto, whatever - is also slow, if you do it within a minute or two of starting the car.
  3. After a minute or two, loading the radio app or other apps is much quicker - maybe one second. Still kinda slow for a 21st century computer, but not slow enough to bother me much.
Is anybody getting results different from this?

Mine still takes 10 seconds after I've been driving 10+ minutes. It's related to whether it's the first time you pull up the radio screen for the drive.

I’d like to see automatic station programming of the strongest stations, so when you are traveling it would be easier to find a local station. This has been a feature of car radios for a very long time!
