Heynow! I'm going to test drive a Mach E Rally (2025) and am seriously considering buying one. This is my first EV, and will not be our primary car. As such, does anyone have anything they "wish they knew" before they bought one? What are the pros and cons of this car (not EV's in general, but THIS specific car)? Are there any glaring strengths or weaknesses in the car? Any hidden costs? Surprises? Disappointments? You get the idea... Any info is appreciated!

Plan on installing a hard-wired charger in your home.

I've had my 25 Rally since April, I am very happy with it. The suspension is definitely improved over previous Mach-Es, which was a big reason for trading in my 21 Mach-E. I have no complaints at all, no problems with it. I don't miss the glass roof from the 21, I rarely looked out it.

This 10x over. You need to know how you’re going to regularly charge it. Relying on public charging sites is more expensive than home, far less convenient, and less reliable.

Is it true that Tesla stations are now working for Ford EVs?

Yes, as long as it’s a Version 3 or 4 Supercharger. You’ll need an adapter though for Superchargers and a separate one if you want to use the L2 Tesla Destination adapters. Ford sells a branded Supercharger adapter which may or may not come with the car (I no longer recall tbh). Third party adapters are made by A2Z and Lectron.

Keep in mind that the charge port for the Mach-e is on the left front. Superchargers are designed for Tesla’s left rear charge port with cars backed in. To use the V3 in particular you’ll need to pull straight in on a spot to the right of the charging unit you’re planning on using (as facing the unit) and still get extreme close. You’ll block 2 charging spots by doing that. V4 Superchargers have a much longer cable and should be able to reach.

Only Tesla’s can charge at Version 2 Superchargers and not all superchargers are open to non Teslas even if they’re V3 or V4.

Also DCFC is far more expensive than charging at home, it can be effectively close to the equivalent gas price.

There are a bunch of threads on all of this here. You just have to wade through our silliness and nonsense.

Strengths - Fast! Comfortable! 4 season tires and extra ground clearance! Big brakes! Rally Mode!

Weaknesses - hmmm, nothing beyond what the other models might suffer from, AFAIK. Mine (2024) has been great (only 1500 miles on it thus far).

Yes, the Tesla charging network is open to Ford owners. I haven't used one yet; I do all my charging at home. I can go round trip between Stayton and Bend on a full charge, round trip to PDX using about 60% of capacity.

If the price is good for your budget, I say don't hesitate - just buy it!

In terms of what I wished I knew when I got it, how nice it is to leave home every day with a full tank, driving past all of the gas stations.

I've had a First Edition since March 2021. Drove it from southern California to Fort Worth, Texas and back that fall, before the Tesla network was open. No problems that trip, and it's only gotten better since with things like Blue Cruise upgrades. When they come out with the version that has native a NACS port, I'll begin considering getting a new Mach-e. Otherwise, I am more than happy with driving this one for many more years.

Go for it!!!

The Rally is more expensive and has less range than some of the other models. So if you do a lot of road trips, it might not be the best choice due to the lower efficiency. Some people don’t like the look of the wheels or large wing. Those are sort of the main complaints about it.

Specific to the Mach-E, people have complaints regarding the slow UI, software limitations, slow pace of software updates, slow DC charging speeds, and the dealer experience for warranty work.

To further what @kamuelsaid, for Tesla Fast charging, if you open the Tesla app and put in your car and that you have an adapter, it only shows compatible locations. FordPass does that also. PlugShare has a Hide Tesla Only filter.

For fast charging, Ford sells an adapter for $200. Or you can buy the Typhoon Pro from A2Z for $127.50 using the link below and code FLASHSPRING. Add the Stellar adapter for Tesla Destination chargers for only $72 more at the same time. Great support if you need it, and the only fast charging adapter that hasn't had trouble charging in 100 degree weather (both Ford and Lectron adapters have slowed charging speeds in very hot weather.

Use the Tesla app to determine which sites are open to non-Teslas. There are some sites that have the newer chargers which are not yet open for non-Teslas. ??

Look is polarizing. Here in the city, it’s hard to find one because it doesn’t sell. I don’t think I’ve seen one in the wild yet. So expect a larger potential hit on resale value (although all Mach-Es don’t hold value). Or lease it if that’s more your thing.

Good choice on considering the Ford Mach-E. I would check if you get the DC NACS / Tesla to CCS1 adapter with your vehicle when you buy it.

If you want to charge at hotels / shopping center / parking lots with Tesla level 2 chargers, I would recommend buying a NACS to J-1772 adapter. The only three brands / model I would buy is A2Z Stellar, UMC TeslaTap or Lectron J-1772

I personally bought the 48 amp Lectron and gave it away to a friend and prefer to use the 80 amp A2Z Stellar with built in lock and compact design.

I would recommend sticking with known brands like Lectron, A2Z and TeslaTap

I would recommend the A2Z Stellar NACS to J-1772 adapter which is available for $72 with flash sale going on right now. It’s got a compact build, 80 AMP capability, a built in lock, good customer service / warranty and overbuilt for futureproofing.

This adapter is used with Tesla home chargers and destination chargers commonly found at hotels / shopping center / parking lots.

The level 2 Stellar adapter will pay for itself overtime by avoiding an expensive fast charge on the road every night while you sleep at the hotel with Tesla destination charging.

You can use the same Tesla Find Us link to locate Tesla Level 2 destination chargers.

A2Z EV has a sale going on right now for NACS to CCS1 adapters ($170 to $127.50) / A2Z EV Stellar NACS to J-1772 AC Level 2 Adapter ($95 to $72) after discount code to save 25% off and get free shipping. The coupon also applies to AC J-1772 extension cords and AC - NACS extension cords ($165 to $124)

Click the link to chose your below products and stack the temporary code "FLASHSPRING" to save 25%.

NACS To J1772 adapter (Tesla Destination Charger for Hotels / Shopping centers) | Up to 80A | 20kW | 12 Months Warranty

A2Z EV Typhoon Pro NACS To CCS1 adapter - DCFC adapter - DC adapter 500A

A2Z EV NACS TO CCS1 Adapter - Save 25% / Free Shipping + bundle the A2Z Stellar AC NACS to J-1772 adapter for $72 additional after discount code "FLASHSPRING".

A2Z EV NACS to J-1772 - AC adapter for home / hotel destination chargers - 80A

A2ZEV NACS To J1772 adapter (Hotel Destination Charger for Hotels / Shopping centers) | Up to 80A | 20kW | 12 Months Warranty

A2Z Stellar Adapter NACS to J-1772 for Destination and Home charging. This adapter literally pays for itself
