Good information. Thanks for all the replies. I expect that 90+% of our driving will be local (less than 50 miles away). A PAAK problem wouldn't be disastrous in that scenario. I would definitely take a fob if going any real distance.
While waiting for my GT to get here I’ve been reading the owners manual. While I like the idea of the PAAK I’m concerned that a minor glitch in the matrix could leave me stranded somewhere. Is this a valid fear or is the system robust enough to not worry?
Did I not express myself well? I said that cars from 20+ years ago saw a 10% hit with a rack. My expectation is that an EV would see at least that amount and likely more. I’m surprised at the 28%. I would have expected something in the 15-20% range. Glad that I don’t leave my bike rack on...
No idea but I remember a test VW did some years ago. They tested one of their cars with and without a ski rack on it and found the rack decreased gas mileage by 10%. I would expect that you would see a comparable reduction in range. Maybe more since cars are more aerodynamic today so the rack...
According to Tire Rack the GT non-PE can take 18-21 inch wheels. The Performance Edition can only take 20 or 21 inch. Looks like the wheels will cost between $240-500 each depending on style.
Anybody that lives in the snow belt and needs to be able to go in the snow should have real winter tires. Huge difference in them vs all-season. My wife grew up in Dubuque so I've seen what winter there is like. Very glad we had winter tires on the car when we visited her family one Christmas.
I can't use them as I'm waiting for my GT to arrive. It sounds like you just have the tires and had mounted them on the factory rims, correct? Can you buy a set of aftermarket rims that will fit both the tires and the GT? Makes it much easier to swap the tires come winter. I've always bought...
If we're traveling somewhere with them and want/need to make a stop for a meal or something. I usually try to find a shady parking spot, put the shades in all the windows, and leave the AC running. We're not talking multi-hour meals or shopping stops here, usually less than 30 minutes.
As long as there's a way to leave the AC on while we're getting dinner or shopping, I'm fine. Not too different from the procedure in our Prius Prime - Leave it running, turn lights off auto, lock door with key hidden in fob and dogs are fine. I have a sign I printed to put in the windows...
It's actually more fuel efficient and can save significant time over traditional transports. In the before times when JIT production was working smoothly, there was a continuous flow of cars through the system. Covid and parts shortages have completely screwed that up at the moment.
If your...
It’s likely that any car in the KC area is headed to the Norfolk Southern mixing center. All the cars from a plant will go to a mixing center and then are put switched into car carriers with a mix of other cars from other Ford plants. That rail car might have Mach-Es, F150s, Escapes, whatever...
When I ordered my MME back in May, one dealer wanted $5k extra for one they had coming in. Another dealer would take an order for MSRP but I had to wait - car is now being shipped. They even let me apply my X plan discount which wasn't much. I refuse to pay extra just to get it now. In the...
My electrical utility will give me $125 towards a smart charger so that they can reduce the charging current during peal demand times. Brings the smart charger price down to the level of the dumb chargers.
It really depends on the competence of the local U-Haul dealer. Some can be quite good while others hire minimum wage workers that barely know how to turn a wrench. I had a sealer install a brake controller for me on a need it now basis and it went ok. For trailer hitches I've always used a...
I Have this charger that I've been using with my Prius Prime. Gets me about 14 miles range per hour of charge. It fits right into your existing outlet. 16 amps is adequate for most overnight charging needs.
