I charge with a charger I bought from Amazon that has a 6-20 plug for my 240v 20A circuit. It charges at 10.5 mph at 16A and gets warm to the touch at about 97 degrees.

Wow, hadn’t heard that the EV charger credit is back. Several descriptions I just found were ambiguously worded about the cap. ChargePoint says it’s 30% for up to $1000 back:

That’s better than $300, assuming they’re right.

I have a very long run from circuit box to garage, and my 2 estimates were both $3500. Ouch. At least I did know this before getting the car. I’ve been fine with charging on 120V, so at this point the only thing that bugs me is the 70 vs 90% efficiency difference for 120V vs 240V. Not sure the rebate is enough to offset that annoyance.

That's a small outlet and most like not the "Correct Gauge" wiring for a 40amp or 50amp breaker... Definitely, consult an electrician... when you're pulling too much power... it causes resistance in small wiring... and possible fire... just be safe... My panel is too small at home for a 50amp panel... I charge at shop and Electrify America is super fast.

I got to Google all of these abbreviations you mentioned ?.
Given my situation how can I charge my car on a decent rate. I don't need super fast charging. But can not live on 120v.
Ultimate solution is to hire an electrician and have them install a 60 amp circuit. This will maximize your charging speed. You can terminate it in a Nema 14-50, or an EVSE(preferred). Depending on the size of your electric, service and panel, it’s possible you may have to upgrade either or both.

there is still the 30% federal tax credit available, at least through the end of this year, potentially longer depending on where you live.
Always better to do a job correctly upfront, so you don’t have to live with the consequences of skimping later on.

Federal tax credit (30%) for installing charging equipment has been in place continuously for the last few years. However, it goes away at the end of this year for people in urban areas, or high income areas. feds are managing this at the census track level, so your neighbor might be eligible for it after 12/31/22, and you won’t be. Some states have additional credits too.

Call an electrician. You may not have the right gauge wire for level 2 charging, so the receptacle is only part of the equation.

I Have this charger that I've been using with my Prius Prime. Gets me about 14 miles range per hour of charge. It fits right into your existing outlet. 16 amps is adequate for most overnight charging needs.
