I would agree, but I do not think there should be a primary reason to have something constantly on a display - not while driving at least - I thought that's why Mach E has 10 inch display in front of the driver.
Yes but for your climate, radio control, and and what they call cards (shortcut buttons) are available on the bottom so that you dont have to go searching for something while driving

Honestly... I would prefer not doing anything while driving, especially with computers - which display basically is - yes, I do something in my Civic (yeah, I know ) sometimes, but that is just pushing a button, a button that has only one action. As soon as you start doing computer stuff (which is multi-action and tree-like action) while driving, honestly, one day it will end really badly...

Another thought - I wonder if this Ford's display/ipad allows tethering, for example, from my IPhone, so I would not need any other data plan but my provers's.

LIke - I guess we have a navigation map in the vehicle, of we have Spotify app there - does Ford provides mobile data connection (4G/5G) for some apps/services in the car? If I have a Spotify account, can I just login and start listening to a music? I would guess some data connectivity should be provided with a vehicle.
If you want to connect to any service you will need a service plan. However, if you have Apple Carplay then the phone connection is that service. Personally I prefer to set Spotify to "offline" which obviates the need for a data connection. Convenient because in some areas there isn't an mobile service, or the mobile service has a lot of problems.

You don't need CarPlay for this option BTW. CarPlay just makes is more comprehensive.

You can turn off the center screen. I tried that on the demo car I sat in.

You can tether from the car's mobile data if you pay AT&T for this function.

You can play Spotify from your phone and hear the audio through the B&O system, multiple different ways to do this.

Some apps are compatible with Ford AppLink, which is yet another way to control and interact with apps through Ford's user interfaces, if you so prefer. We don't have the list for SYNC 4 yet, but it's likely similar to the compatibility list from SYNC 3:

https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/applink-catalog.html

You have several options, moreso than the competitor's EVs that you mentioned.

I think I said - "Let me guess..." Does that phrase means I know something for certain?
In this case, your "let me guess" was presumptive and ended with a "guess" that implied a style of parenting you disagreed with. I think that most Americans would take this offensively, regardless of whether or not your guess is correct.

There are a lot of things I like about Americans and there are plenty I do not. One of the things I do not like is that Amercans, surprisingly!!!, really surprisingly, despite huge amount of people not born and raised in US (like me) who are not pure English speakers and not completely skilled in language intricacies - so, Americans pay extra attention to a tone and lack of "pleasant words" and too little to an essense of what somebody is saying.

In my case, I just guessed the person is single or doesn't have kids (or decides everything for everybody - that's how it sounded when he was talking about not watching Netflix in the car ever). It's a virtual form - of course people perceive written words differently.

You can always use Sync as it was originally intended. One button then tell the car what to do--don't think the Mach-E will even require a button.

"Hey Ford set temp to 72F" (or "Hey Ford set temp to 20C")
"Hey Ford play song ...."
"Hey Ford open the frunk" (Not sure if this would work thought I read someone trying it on here)

or if you want some peace and quiet

"Hey Ford shut up"

Its not about doing stuff while driving. its about accesibility. Its about not having to search through multiple pages of settings to find the one u want.

There are a few assumptions being made here that may or may not be correct:
  • Sync 4a v1.0 may or may not have its own native apps for streaming services. Subsequent versions may or may not have those if v1.0 does not
  • Ford does include 3 years of free connectivity for the Sync 4a system. It is unclear if that will only include basic functionality like maps and traffic or native streaming apps (if those exist)
  • The complementary connectivity does not seem to include using the car as your wifi hotspot; other Fords require an AT&T subscription to use the car as the wifi hotspot
  • Since sync4a allows you to connect to wifi, one should logically be able to use your phone as the hotspot for sync4a after the 3 year data subscription ends. Ford may prevent this in software so that the realtime nav and traffic only work over 4G connections
  • Using AA or carplay, it is likely that one will be able to play popular streaming services from your phone through sync4a.
  • Playing video on a driver visible screen while moving is a huge no-no, which is why Tesla only lets you play videos while parked.
Let's wait to see what the thing can really do before getting snippy with one another

My wife has a WiFi tablet, she would like to have WiFi in the car. She can look at whatever on her tablet while I drive. There are aftermarket entertainment systems with displays for the rear seat occupants to watch movies or whatever if that is desired.

Ha-ha - but we will, I mean we will be searching through the "pages" :) If you played with the display, you know how many options and pages are there. And there are far more "useful" features/info items there than the screen is capable to display on a permanent basis :)

This is TOTALLY YOUR FAULT. If your English language skills weren't so fantastic then we could tell you weren't a native speaker. But since they are we can't! :) (This is a compliment in case there is any confusion).
Ha-ha - thank you! But the longer I live in this country, the more I understand how some people were right when they were talking about cultural differences. At the end, some differences I can understand but, still can't accept them :)

If it is so it's kind of another small, but still a "negative" comparing to Tesla. Not only they have some free data - like watching Netflix and a map with a great feature allowing you to calculate your route via Superchargers net, but also I was a bit confused by the fact that they chose to position big display in Mach E in a Portrait orientation. Somebody in Ford definitely didn't think about using that display as an entertainment center - watching a movie in Tesla with its Landscape display is so much natural than watching it on a Portrait-oriented display. And if you say that display should not have things like Netflix (or similar) that's would be pretty dumb thing to say in this time and age.
Both orientations have their own advantages. For Tesla, some models, like the model S, have displays with portrait orientation and others, like the model 3, have landscape.

I believe the Frunk can only be opened by a lever under the dash. (Much like a traditional ICE vehicle.) It's one of the few things that I do not like about the Mach E.
