We have just bought a second hand Mach E AWD Extended range 2021 from our Ford dealership. We have had the car 1 week now.

On pickup I reset the trip monitors so they were all zero. The 'guess o meter' reported the car was fully charged and had 330 miles. I was expecting to maybe get around 250 in real term miles. We use the car for running around the doors, not much motorway driving. Only internal comforts used are the climate is set to 21 and sometimes the heated seat were used, but rarely.

It turns out that as of today we are down to 15% battery with 30 miles left and the car trip has 180 miles. This is less then I was expecting, but don't know if this is normal. The car is 4 year old in September so I understand there is degradation, but I have read on these forums that people are getting into the mid 200's.

One pedal driving is turned off, and is in whisper mode. I can't work out if I am missing something.

Any advice or insight into expected milage would be good.

Thanks

A few things:

What driving mode are you using? Some have harsher regen braking and recover more energy as you go. This has a large impact over time.

Run the battery down to just under 10% and then charge to full on one solid charge to 100% (on a home charger - not fast charging) - let it charge for as long as it wants to rather than limiting it by time. This will let the battery actually fill every cell properly - rather than reporting full when some are not.

The GOM can be nonsense - and you may find it keeps offering you more as you get closer to the end.

My 21 ER can do around 250miles and that’s without trying too hard. Although that’s mostly motorway.

Thanks for you feedback. It's similar to what I have read with regards to range.

We are currently in Whisper driving mode.

I put the car on charge last night, I have set it to 80%, but will adjust to 100%. See if that indeed makes any difference.

I thought the same about the GOM but also took into account the battery % went below 15% which at that point if the GOM was incorrect it didn't have much life left in the battery to give much more range than the reported 30 miles.

I am concerned about the range based on what I have read. The thing i can't be certain on is of they used a super charger at the ford dealership before we picked it up (my guess would be yes).

Mine is a 21 extended range. 39000 miles on it. Winter driving in extreme cold (-5F and colder) I get about 150 miles of range. Shoulder seasons (30 - 60F) I get 180 - 220 miles for range. Summer season (70-90F) I sometimes get 300+ miles range. Forget the GOM. Do a "back of the napkin" calculation during your drive. For instance 90Kwh battery (Yes I know it's actually a bit bigger) times your usage 3.0 miles per Kwh gets you the stated 270 miles of range. (If you mostly charge to 80 or 90 percent. Adjust as necessary) High speed driving in the express lanes will suck up your electrons faster. A nice drive on secondary roads provides better scenery, better cafe's and much better mileage. Enjoy your ride.

We got in touch with the dealer and explained what we experienced. When we picked it up i had noticed it had an incomplete on the recall

2021-22 mach e high voltage battery contactor failure

At the time they said the software update had been completed and may just need to update, but they have replied saying they need to bring the car back in as it is indeed incomplete.

I thought the recall was software related, it had a 7 hour update before we picked it up, but doesn't seem to be related to this recall. Does anyone know what this recall invovles, is it just software related?

The dealer said it would improve the range, watch this space.

Welcome to the world of Mach E software updates.

In short, it's likely your car will have a lot of software updates it's missing, Ford have not been great at sending them out. The dealer can skip the over the air process and download them to your car.

It's ideal to have them do as many as they can and preferably all available to bring your car up to date. Some of them probably do have a little to impact range (but not overly so), there is one that makes the GOM slightly more accurate - however it's still hopeless.

My MME 21 plate, took me nearly 18 hours to do them all.

Pop your VIN in this thread and someone can run it and tell you what you have outstanding: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-are-willing-to-look-up-info-for-others.10230

The recall you mentioned is NOT a software update. This is in addition to the software update that was performed ages ago and involves a complete removal of the HVBJB component. This requires the battery to be removed, rectified and then replaced. Mine has just had this done and was in the workshop for a day and a half. Incidentally, if this recall hadn't been done when you bought the car the dealer should not have sold it to you.

Thanks for the info. The car has been in the garage now for three days. Will be picking it up again tomorrow. They had a delay on some parts it needed, but originally we were told two days so adds up to what you mention above which was day and half work.

I did mention it at the time when we signed for the car, which is why I chased it a week later.

Just need to wait for my mustang key upgrade recall now.

Will see if the range is better.

While the car has been getting worked on we have had use a 23 plate model as a courtesy car, the milage did'nt drop as fast as we experienced, but this was in traffic, mileage decreased faster motorway driving, which also matches people's points above.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.
