Why does the article say Ford is not planning to phase out Sync? I think, yes we do want them to phase out sync. May take a few years to get the new android OS on every model, but why say Sync is staying?

I wonder if more powerful hardware is required for the new system like upgraded CPU which is why current vehicles can’t get the software upgrade

I'm guessing they don't want to go through all the work to update the software to Android automotive. I feel like it's been challenging enough for Ford to get updates on the Mach E and lightning with their own software let alone starting from the beginning on a completely different one. So my guess is the existing cars will remain on sync and they'll keep that team for a period of time for updates and refinement before eventually eliminating the team after a couple years when they won't support it any longer.

unless the article means they aren’t going to just update older sync stuff to AA, but save it for the next full redesign of the host vehicle?

100%, this will not come to the current Sync systems, which are already lacking CPU/GPU.

Ford Fusion, Mach E soon?

Generally what Ford has done in the past is continue existing vehicles unchanged and roll out new systems on redesigns and sometimes mid-cycle refreshes. There are still vehicles getting Sync 3 since they were originally designed with it.

The article specifically mentions that Ford is planning on including the new system on its EVs, so I'm wondering if it's coming soon. They did a mechanical refresh for 2024. Maybe they're doing electronics for 2025?
