Partial hood, meaning about 3-4" at the front?
Not really sure, looks more like bottom 1/3. Planning on getting the whole hood done. Just haven’t gotten that price yet.

Ok, let us know when you get a quote. I'm also planning on stopping by to get a quote at the Gatineau shop

Would film protect against keying?
Protect: yes. Make the car key proof? No. However, the casual keyed might think they had scratched the car and not known a day in the sun would heal the scratches in PPF.

There was a bit of information here from @XPEL https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...lm-ppf-such-as-xpel-for-mach-e.669/post-39362
but more details in a post to the "Club":

You're on the right track considering PPF and Ceramic Coating. If you're thinking about doing both, it's important to note that PPF should always go on first. Never put PPF on top of ceramic coating. PPF is the best solution for rock chip and scratch protection. Ceramic coatings are the best solution for enhanced appearance and ease of maintenance. If you want both then do both, but if so, always do PPF first then ceramic coating.

As far as pricing goes, it will vary based on the installer due to labor rates, overhead, etc but here are some general prices to expect.

PPF - Paint Protection Film AKA Clear Bra General Pricing. Protect the high-impact areas of your vehicle.

  • Full Front End: full hood, full front fenders, front bumper, headlights, and side mirrors. $1,895 - $2,495
  • Full Front + Rocker Panels: package above plus protection along the rocker panels and behind the rear tire. $2,495 - $3,195
  • Full Vehicle Protection: full-body protection $5,995 - $9,995 +

Ceramic Coating General Pricing. This will vary greatly based on the condition of the paint and the amount of paint correction that will be needed. It will also vary based on how much of the vehicle is protected with PPF as you don't have to paint correct PPF.
- $1,500 - $3,000

We hope this info helps. Let us know if you have any questions or have anything we can help with.

Which panels you protect is up to you. I plan to hit all the plastic panels in the front plus the painted wheel lips and rear bumper panel based on cuts I have in plastic parts on our Leaf despite the (probably cheap) film protection that came from the factory/dealer.
I had full front end done (“bra”) and it cost me $995; but that was back in 2016. Hard to believe it went up that much but I’ll have it installed anyway.

We had a partial hood on our Prius and I'd rather have the full hood done. The partial results in an obvious line across the hood.
Can’t even see line on my two cars. You have to look at a certain angle to see it.

CRAP that's US$ on top of things!!!!

I was quoted $750 CAN for the front of my F150 and the hood... And was planning to do the full front on the MME, guess it will be really just the front fascia, that's way too expensive, no matter how expensive the car is (for my budget at least)
I agree. My MME will be our daily drive and things happen so no amount of film will protect all surfaces all the time. They reduce the chipping dramatically but not 100%. I never had PPF put on my 2002 Thunderbird because it was a real “Garage Queen!” Stored in winter in a sealed desiccant bag (Car Bag), never out in inclement weather, no automated washes; waxed and detailed continuously, covered with a 2002 red Thunderbird cloth in the garage; it looked pretty much like it did the day I took delivery. Not so with my Mustang Mach E; it’s made to be driven. I just worry about parking lots and doors damaging the car and worst yet being “keyed” by a Mach E (or any BEV) hater.

How much do you think it would cost to apply this to the MME? Do they apply it to the whole vehicle, or just the front area? Sorry, I'm an idiot on this kind of stuff. I've never applied any protection to cars before, but I've also never spent this much money on a vehicle either. I'd like to do my best to protect the investment.
I have only had this applied to the front hood, fender, underneath door handles and on the door edges. I was was between $500-$700. This was installed on a 2013 escape, 2016 F-150 and 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII. The Lincoln was closer to $800-$900 since there were no templates available. So I think any clear coat may be expensive until templates are available.

I e-mailed my 3M installer who replied that templates should be out relatively soon after the car is released and we have OKTB so that should be sometime in Q1 of 2021. ;)

So I called two local XPel installers to get some quotes....

All two would do: front, hood, front fenders and mirror backs... (but not A pillars)

1st one is saying 1650 + tax
2nd one is saying 1100 + tax

1st one, not sure what he does specifically but that's a ?%"?%/" of money
2nd one, I found the quote pricey and said to myself, this ain't rocket science, I've seen videos, if you take your time (and have time) you can do a job like the pros do. So I looked up on XPel and "guestimated" roll sizes I would need to do those surfaces (including A Pilars) and it turned out to be about 1000$ canadian, and I was not factoring in any potential sales tax or custom fees...

So,I might just get it done profesionally if it's gonna cost me about the same on my own!

But then again I might redo the math on order the film.....

Installation is very important part of PPF performance. Spending that much on materials I would want a quality installation.

Ask if they both do rolled edges. I'm assuming you've looked and reviews for both and they are both authorized dealers.

Of course both are authorized

I've looked at 8 installation videos so far....

Time consuming yes...hard no (if you are somewhat handy)

Rolled edges, steaming, snipped corners, stretching, curving, slip &stick...

If you prep yourself and aren't in any rush, you can do a pro job!

But in the end if material is only 200$less than what I could get from an installer, I might get it done.... That way the warranty would apply and the job would be done quicker... But it would have to be up to my standards (I've often seen jobs done in many fields by pro/authorized installers that don't meet my satisfaction level!!!)

Given that most EVs don't have the traditional front grille.... And given the front painted fascia, anyone else considering getting the front end protected by 3M paint film?

Never had it done on any of my cars but with the amount of stone and sand they put on our roads in winter, I'm thinking it's would be a good idea!

On my previous Sierra I once got a stone that shattered the GMC logo on the grille, so I can just see what that will do to the front face of the MME
Done. Plastic coating front end, and miror. 1500$
