I have a 2023 MACH E RWD extended range since January 2023, just passed 8,000 kms. The car is very nice to drive and we had no issues until a road trip in late September 2023 when in the course of a day we noticed a big drop in the predicted range. I thought it might be an aberration but the range had dropped from an indicated typical 550-580km ( the FORD quoted range for RWD extended range is up to 600km) to less than 400km at 100%. I booked the car into the local Ford service with a comprehensive explanation of how the range had suddenly dropped with comparisons to my other EV which performs signifcantly better with a smaller battery, I had to wait 5 weeks for an appointment, and they could not find anything wrong and did a "reset " on 5th December where the indicated range was immediately back to what we had previously enjoyed. Unfortunately that "reset" only lasted a week and the range again dropped and is now indicating around 380KM for a 100% charge. I did a short road trip at the weekend of 200KM from Galway to Shannon airport and back , all motorway at 110Km on cruise control and the car range dropped by 300km during that trip. I use minimal heat pump at all times. Are other members seeing this type of range reduction? I seem to have lost at least 100KM of range and there is an apparent discrepancy betwen the trip consumption indicator as it typically shows power usage of 13-18kWH/100KM which is within spec for the car but that does not agree with the indicated range nor the rate at which the range is consumed.

A second and more unsual issue occurred at the weekend on my road trip, I was on the motorway with the adaptive cruisue control set for 110km/hr and about 30 minutes into my trip the car suddenly and without warning increased the cruise control speed to 120Km/hour, the legal limit on Irish motorways. It took me a few seconds to understand why the car was suddenly speeding up just as another vehicle was trying to pass me on the outside lane. I switched off the cruise control for the remainder of the journey to Shannon but turned it on again for the return trip to Galway. About 30 mins into the journey the car suddenly and without warning again increased the cruise control from 110km/Hr to 120Km/Hr, this time there was no other vehicle near my car. This experience is a bit unnerving as I did not think the car could change the set cruise control speed by itself. Has any other member experienced this with their car? My other EV has adaptive cruise control as do other cars I have owned and I have never experienced a car that can change the set speed by itself. Any advice on both issues would be appreciated.

Both of your issues happen often to people and are posted often.

1) Your GOM (Guess-O-Meter) adapters to your driving. Drive local roads for a few hundred miles, and it goes up. Drive on the highway at high speed, and it goes down. Put in a destination, and it tries to accurately predict the range. Reset, and it goes back to factory defaults. In short, that's what it's supposed to do.

2) In the US, we have a feature in settings called speed sign recognition. It sees a sign for 65mph when you're doing 45mph, and zooms up. If you have the tolerance set for +20, it zooms from 45 to 85 and scares the crap out of people who have no idea it's a setting... Turning it off solves that problem, or leaving it on and the tolerance set to 0 or +3 (my setting) solves the other part.

Thanks for your help with the second issue. I will check that setting. I am well aware of the car adapting to driving style but that does not explain the range issue that I have as my Mach E consistently performed according to the indicated range throughout 2023 on short and long trips with mixed town and motorway driving. It is booked in with Ford for a further check as I am beginning to suspect a battery problem, i.e. loss of some cells. Thanks for your reply.

The first question would be if you are actually losing range or if your Guess-o_Meter is misleading you. What has been the change in your efficiency during that time?

You should also be aware that about September is the first reduction to the Guess-o-Meter estimates that happens in the fall. Another happens around November. Other changes to the Guess-o-Meter have happened when Ford has changed the algorithm. Did you have any software updates?

I recommend you read up on how to properly estimate your range:
