Android Auto phone calls defaulting to device instead of bluetooth

Anyone else having the issue with phone calls when AA is connected defaulting to the device instead of to bluetooth? I have to accept the call and then manually select bluetooth to get a call to go through. I'm assuming it has to do with bluetooth connection timing vs AA connection timing. Anyone found a solution?

Okay well that was easy.

Under phone settings, make sure you DO NOT SET a phone ringtone. Set it to "use phone's ringtone" as evidently using a ringtone pauses the bluetooth connection on an incoming call to prevent the ringer and disconnects bluetooth as the default device.

Yes I've had this problem. It's intermittent, but of course manifesting at the worst time.
I've actually had it happen mid call once. call was going over the speakers and then BOOP - i could only here them on the phone sitting on the charging pad.

I will check that setting on my way home this evening.

Quick google had someone else state the same issue specific with an older version of sync using a ringtone vs phone ringtone. Gave it a try and tested it and sure enough bluetooth was defaulted on the incoming call then.

I'm having the same issue. I know this is old. Where is this setting? On the phone? Car?

It's in the car in phone settings.
