Lots of threads on this topic but throwing this out there. I received the recall update OTA last night. Tried to install it and it fails as interrupted and states the battery is too low.

i contact ford via online chat. They stated my 12v is currently at 70% a that the update should install as long as im over 40%. But they still recommend I charge the large battery 100% and try again. I’m going to try that overnight with a slow charge rate and see that resolves. But did anyone blinking that 40% threshold is correct?

Sorry for the typos… but I think you can follow.

I was under the impression that the threshold target was ~80% SOC.

Of course it's the proprietary Ford value of SOC, rather than some chart for AGM 12V battery SOC based on resting voltage.

My car did a lock out recall OTA this morning (although I previously had the recall update performed at the dealer). Per CarScanner, the LVB SOC was 79% at the start and 74% upon completion.

From my experience 12v SOC of 40% will NOT be high enough for any update that during installation makes the car unavailable to drive. Many use 80% as a rule of thumb, my last update stated 26 minutes to complete. I had 70% SOC and the installation started but then stopped. I then charged for an hour or so on a 48 amp EVSE. The update installed just fine starting with 79% 12V SOC. The installation went faster than 26 minutes and at the end I still had 74%.

HVB state of charge does not come into play. However, charging the Traction battery also charges the 12V system battery assuming you are doing so with 220v AC L2 or better. Your other choice is to drive for awhile which also charges the 12V battery.

I got to the car to go home from work and the alert for the PCM update was on the Sync screen. I wasn't in a hurry so I hit the button for "update now". It required me to shut the car off and then the 180 second countdown started.

I think it took about 15 minutes, although it predicted about 30.

Didn't check SOC before/after, but obviously it was above the limit to allow the procedure.

Oh the Irony Ford. I drove to work and hit the update button. When I came out it said "Update Failed - 12v too low install". I drove to the grocery store - came out and the 12v was dead. Had to call roadside assistant, jump it, and then drive it straight to a dealer I have never dealt with. exactly 30k miles and 3 years. Thats when Ford usually kicks us mach e owners right the nuts. all of this BS should be covered under warranty.

At 30K and exactly 3 years, it is covered.

Received a notification that the update failed due to "low battery". The Mach was plugged into a 240V 'charger' and the SOC was 68%. Note: The wall unit was outside of the hours of charge so was not in a charge mode. Trying again today.
