TLDR: Memorize your factory default door code, don't rely on a custom one.

Locked my key, phone, and wallet (and the wife's phone and wallet as well) all in the car for a snorkeling excursion today, only to find that my custom door code didn't open the car. (It had worked many times before.)

I borrowed a stranger's phone to call a parent whose number I had memorized, to give me the number of another parent who lives with us. Walked her through finding my iPad, logging into OneDrive, to find a photo of my default door code card and tell me the code. We got lucky that there was a generous and patient stranger with a phone nearby, and everyone answered their phones and made it work.

Software updates often mess with the car's settings, and I noticed that a recent one cleared out my 'Home' and 'Work' saved locations in my navigation. The best I can guess is that a software update cleared my custom door code also. Not cool, Ford. These things need to be communicated better to the owners if critical settings or functionality is going to be affected.

My door code was cleared recently, as well. Agree-not cool when counting on a feature, to have it suddenly gone. Seems like routine programming could save existing setting values, then restore after update (if that was indeed the cause).
