The wiper arm snapped off randomly and I am having a hell of a time removing the old arm to put on a new one. I have used the pry tool and it seems to only be causing damage, no movement at all on the arm. Any ideas on how I can remove this safely?
$240 might be better than a broken back glass. I’ve never removed one before, so I can’t help much.
It might be pressed onto the assembly. Do you already have the new part? Post a picture of it.
Does it move when you twist it? Hit it with some WD40, and try twisting it off?
It might be past of an assembly and needs to be freed from inside the hatch?
I take it this is from the service manual... It certainly suggests that it is press-fit and I'm with you that $240 is a lot less than an all-too-likely rear-window replacement!
Thanks for the info. Tried again using the pry tool and it eventually popped off! Had to use much more force than I expected but the new arm is now installed.
We had a mobile service tech come to the house to check the wiper motor for a possible recall. He had to remove the wiper arms to get to the motor, and I was watching him. If I remember correctly, he used what I would call a "puller" which has two arms that hook under the wiper arm and a screw that sits on top of the bolt. You turn the screw and the arm pops off. Seems much safer than a pry bar!
