Just a quick note in case anyone else runs into this, it has now happened to me twice, once at Christmas, once a day or two ago (thanks to @Mach-Lee for helping me to diagnose it the first time).
Annoyingly it happens the NIGHT before a long trip each time, which is especially stressful:
- Set the charge level to 100% from the Ford Pass app.
- Plugged in my 2024 Mach-E BEFORE the scheduled charging time (prior to 11pm for me) (Level 2 charger at 40A, more than enough time to charge up before morning)
- A series of clicks etc. heard for a minute or two, "Charging Fault" alert in Ford Pass app, "Stop Safely Now" alert when starting the car.
Restarted the car, drove around the block, plugged back in, problem mysteriously vanishes.
What I have concluded after the second identical occurrence (and no issues found by the dealer after the first instance) is that there is some kind of software bug with setting the charging % in the Ford Pass app which (probably) conflicts/fights with the preferred charging times, enters a logic loop, flips the charging on and off rapidly, and results in a charging fault as a result.
The "drive around the block" workaround puts the car OUT of the GPS range of my "Home" charger, which seems to reset and fix that logic issue once it re-enters range.
TLDR:
If you get a charging fault after changing the charge level % in the Ford Pass app, drive around the block once, and it will likely clear.
