My wife currently drives a 2023 VW id4 pro s awd. It's under lease until August but we have started looking at other vehicles to replace it with. It has been a fantastic vehicle for her. I'm seeing a lot of 2023 Mach e g t's that are buy back lemons that appear to be very good deals. What are your thoughts on these and what should I keep an eye out for or should I just walk away all together?
Thanks

I purchased a lemon 2022 last year with very low miles. It's been a great car and a great bargain price. Look at the vehicle history report. I looked at several lemon vehicles before I choose the one I got. Good luck with your pursuit of a new car.

I would say that it might depend on what the lemon laws are in your state.

There was a thread here where a guy had a "lemon" twice. Basically, ended up getting a new car twice because of it. But the full story at least for the second one he described was that in California it says that if the car has been in the shop for more than 30 days in the first year (non-continuously) it can be claimed as a lemon.

Well, there was a problem with the battery, and the dealer actually got the battery in before the time limit, but they needed some code from Ford to finish the job. That didn't come in before the 30-day limit.

So, in this case, most likely someone got a very good car for very cheap because it was called a lemon for one problem that was fixed.

Other parts of the same lemon law require more of a "repeated problems". And as such that might be more in line with what people think of as a "lemon".

We had a 2023 MME GT that we’d owned for 20000 miles and it was repurchased by ford. The car had two problems, one a software update corruption that took about 10 days to fix and then the HV Battery Junction Box failed and that took 33 days to get fixed. Corporate Ford treated us very well and in looking back I believe it was the lack of dealer service knowledge and lack of customer support at the dealership level that we decided to pursue the lemon law buyback. On the way home (3 miles) after the 33 days in the shop for the HVBJB replacement the car had a coolant overheating warning which meant towing back to the dealership. I think the car would be fine to drive post fix but we’d lost confidence in the dealership fix. I was shocked at the depreciation as we were told by the dealer if we’d like to trade it in, it was worth less than half the $64k price new in Oct 2023. So the deals are out there.

I appreciate your reply. That's the thing about the Volkswagen it's been virtually trouble free for 2 and 1/2 years. Sure it's got its quirks but don't they all,? Definitely nothing major and she just loves the car. One thing her VW doesn't have because of parts issues when they were built was the 360 surround view that her Tiguan had.

Ford buybacks are good deals. You still have the remaining factory warranties. Picked up a 21 premium with 40k miles for 19k!
