With the asking price of used Mustangs Mach-Es already dropping into the low $30k range for '21 and '22 Selects and even the GTs down to ~$42k (lemoned and manufacturer buybacks, sometimes meaning a brand new HVB), my savings account just isn't going to grow as quickly as those prices are dropping.

But, honestly, at some point soon, we might buy a low-end Select just for the battery--A 68kWh battery for $30k is cheaper than what you can get from solar installers or even as a DIY for whole-house battery backup. Its capacity is way more than we would need for a night of power outage, but it would help during the long winter months. An 18.5 kWh whole house LiFePO4 battery costs around $14k before shipping, which is about 3.6 times more expensive per kWh.

It's also about the same price as buying the battery pack directly from Ford ($28k-$35k).

I'm quite happy with my lemon/buyback Focus RS, had it for 3 years no issues. It all depends on what got it to lemon status.

I know it's gas vs. electric, but the dealer listed every warranty repair leading up to the buyback. In my case, it was initially a timing chain that went, then cat, then various other things related to the timing chain. A competent mechanic would have replaced all affected parts, but the guy had to keep coming back to fix another related failure. Once I saw all the issues were from the initial failure (and that they were finally all addressed) I pulled the trigger confidently.

Once you find one you like, request the service history and post it up here. Everyone can dig over it and tell you if they are all related or if they are separate failures and to stay away.

Resurrecting an old thread as i'm in the market for a used MME. If the car is a lemon, then I'm assuming it will show on the carfax if you are buying from a ford dealer. Is that correct? what about a buyback?

When I was considering buy used, I decided to make it a condition of sale that the car was not a 'lemon law' or dealer buy back. (the later mechanical, not financial or something like that.)
