I'm a big Car Play fan. However, half way home on a one hour drive, Car Play stopped working. I had been using wireless Car Play, so I tried plugging in the phone, but that didn't help. I was able to continue listening to my podcast through Bluetooth, but the Car Play interface was gone.

Car Play was still missing the next day when I started the car. Before leaving my garage, I had to go into the settings and turn off, the Mach e option in the Car Play settings, then turn it back on to fix the problem.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me, but it was the first time it has happened since I upgraded my iPhone.

Has this issue happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for fixing this issue while keeping my eyes on the road?

This past week my CarPlay quit connecting. Fooled around a while with settings and reboots and eventually got it straightened out. Possibly some sort of recent background update. I haven’t had it go out while being used, but most of my driving is 5 miles or less.

I've had this issue for years where CarPlay doesn't work. As OP mentioned above, I go into the settings, disable CarPlay by hitting the "play" button, and lastly, enable CarPlay by hitting "play" again.

This works 90% of the time. Sometimes, disable/enable toggling of the "play" button a second time works. I've had to delete the phone from the list once in 3 years to fix an issue right after an OTA.

My problem is that occasionally the sound does not come from CarPlay (I can see the podcast running, but no sound). If I'm still parked, I just switch the system off and back on, otherwise I just listen to the radio. I didn't realize that you could disable/enable CarPlay from the settings, I'll try that next time.

I’ve had similar issues with my iPhone. I’ve resolved them each time by going into the iPhone’s Settings/General/CarPlay, and removing the Mach-E from the CarPlay list. Then I reconnected in the Mach-E, and it worked again. It added the Mach-E back to CarPlay vehicles in Settings and also remembered the app order, widgets etc. I don’t believe this is a Mach-E issue. It is an iOS issue.

For me, the sure-fire way to avoid this intermittent issue (and some others related to RF interference from road construction sites) is to turn off wireless carplay auto-connect on the phone, and only use the USB-C connection for carplay. This also fixes a southern problem, the phone overheating from wireless charging in a very hot car.

(My theory of the drop-out problem is that the car sometimes connects to the phone audio device in both bluetooth/carplay-wifi and USB; the actions people describe help it find the port they want. I might be wrong.)

There is an issue with the head unit where the audio isn’t being presented, no matter which input you are using (AA/CarPlay, AM, FM, SXM). The simple solution for me has been to switch to another input for a few moments, then back to what I want to listen to. 🤔🐩

I suspect you are correct about it being an iOS issue since the fix that I used was done just on the phone.

Nearly every time I’ve a CarPlay issue I just reboot the iPhone and it corrects the issue. I used to remove and re-add the phone but then I’d need to adjust all the icons in the CarPlay menu (such as pain). Learned just to reboot the iPhone and all returned to normal.

I have this one sometimes too. Usually I end up rebooting Sync, which typically resolves it (hold volume down and next track >> buttons for 5 secs). It's maddening - happens probably one of every 10 times I get in the car. Occasionally switching to radio and back to CarPlay resolves it but usually just do the reboot.
