Carplay - Pause Spotify Music while running Waze

Does anyone have a workaround for this small issue? Let's say you have carplay open while driving, and you playing Spotify music in the background while Waze is being used for nav up front. How to you PAUSE the Spotify music without having to manually switch to Spotify in Carplay (on the screen)?

I tried using the power button on the screen (in the middle of the volume knob) but that mutes the music while Spotify continues to play the content in the background. It does not pause it.

I also tried the OK button on the steering wheel which does nothing.

Any ideas?

CarPlay with Waze in use is rather messed up atm. There were multiple bugs including some app breaking ones introduced with iOS 15.x. Your problems may be related to one of those.

Actually, I just figured out the workaround (I think). Using "Hey Siri" can pause the music when it's streaming via bluetooth to an external device (i.e. Mach E)... it just doesn't work when Spotify is streaming from the phone itself. So... I guess you can pause/play with "Hey Siri". Would be nice if the "OK" button on the steering wheel could be enabled as a pause/play button, though...

Can't you press the icon that looks like blocks on the bottom left corner of CarPlay to get both Waze and Spotify side-by-side on the display? You might need to press it twice. I stopped using Waze after it totally f@#^$d me on a drive, but this works with both Apple and Google Maps.

Thanks, I’ll try that; I tried using Siri to pause/play but the response time is ridiculously slow…
