We had our charging station installed yesterday, and I can't seem to get rid of the reduced charge rate light (steady orange light next to the pulsing blue while charging). After the initial installation, the electrician plugged it in and it charged at a rate of 3.1kw. I knew this was low (it's on a 60A circuit and set to 48A), but he said it was likely due to the fact that the car was already 90% charged (wasn't sure on that, but I'm too new to argue). Came home last night at 70%, that 3.1KW rate held overnight, and I noted the orange light (so I didn't know it was unusual at first). Based on what I've found on this, I cycled the circuit (10 minutes off, then reboot) and moved the interior setting on the charger to 6 instead of 5. This got the rate up to the more anticipated rate of 10.1kw, but the orange reduced current rate stayed on. I moved the switch back to 5 (hoping that it had been resolved and that the light was there due to calling for more power than was available), and the charge dropped to a rate of 7 with the reduced rate light remaining. I'm now back at a hard-setting of 6, charging at a rate of 10.1, but the light remains.

For reference - I'm showing software version 2.112.125:3.15:3.15:3.15:3.15 and firmware version 5.0.16

Any ideas?

I had the same unit installed a few weeks ago. Installers set the internal max amp switch to 48 amps - which is correct for my 60 amp circuit.

Once that’s set internally, shouldn’t be any reason to need to change it (unless you go to a bigger circuit later). However, you can link the Charge Station Pro app to Ford Pass, and from there you can adjust the charge rate from very low up to your max (48 amps in our case). When I first installed the charger pro app the value was low (like 16 amps, I think). First thing I did was to up it to 48 amps. That got me a solid blue light all the way across and full charge rate.

Since then I’ve played around with a slightly lower rate (40 amps). I notice when I do that a small section on the right of the display is amber, reflecting the lower charge rate. Double check your app that it’s also set to 48 amps.

Also - be careful changing the internal switch above the 48 amp rate. Our cars can only draw 48 amps, so shouldn’t cause issues. However, if somehow another vehicle were to get plugged in that could draw more than 48 amps, you could potentially damage your circuit.

Yep. App is set to 48, but no setting seems to get rid of the orange reduced rate indicator, and it doesn't charge properly when set to 48A on the charger itself.

Thanks, yes. No other cars use this charger, and it is inside a garage, so I was comfortable upping it with the knowledge that the MME won't pull beyond the capability of the circuit, but I appreciate the heads up.

That sounds like an installation issue or bad unit. I’d have installer back out. If everything set to 48 amp you should not be getting reduced charge indicator..

Im having almost identical issues. Installation about 3 weeks ago. I posted about this last week and it is happening again tonight. I have Firmware version 5.0.25. Talked to Ford Pro customer service and they said nothing was wrong with the unit and ā€œsome people are having issues with the amber lightā€ After resetting it is now pulling 9.6kw with the amber light.

Friend had the same issue. Check the network connection at the charger. If its good, call ford support and they will help. Doubt its a bad charger.
