Put a deposit down on a dealer ordered vehicle. Production date already passed according to the JSON. Supposed to get here by the end of the month or so. Checked today and the ETA has been pushed out by several months. Called the dealer and they said in their system it shows that the car is missing a chip due to the chip shortage. Has anyone else seen this before? The cars should be built within 72 hours or so of the production date right? Does this mean the car didn't pass QA and needed to go back to the end of the line?

It is not a QC issue with your specific car. There has been a chip shortage for quite some time now, to the point that it has seriously impacted new car production/sales. Google "chip shortage cars" for more details.

I agree with @timbop, this is not a sign of an issue with your car. However, dealers are notoriously bad sources of information on your car status. Many new cars are being delayed across most auto makers due to chip shortages. However, there is no indication this is the case for Mach E production. Your dealer is probably just making a broad assumption to give you information to make you go away and quit bothering them.

Do a search on the Forum for "chip" (especially in thread titles) and you will see the myriad threads discussing this topic for the past several months.

Thanks. I am aware of the chips shortage. It was just strange that the update happened roughly 2 weeks after the "production date" in the tracker. It seems weird that the car would be missing a chip after already being in production for two weeks. Don't the cars generally get produced over a 72 hour period? Guess it could just be some kind of quirk of the Ford API.
