Has anyone noticed that many salvage sellers on eBay and elsewhere are asking crazy prices for their parts? In two separate projects I've been working on, salvage sellers on eBay are charging 60% of dealership MSRP for parts, even dirty parts from a flood-damaged vehicles.

2 examples:
I swapped a "Light Space Gray" interior from a Mach-e Premium into my 2022 CR1 because I like the interior color, they are more comfortable, perforated, and the passenger seat is motorized with lumbar, same as the driver's.

They sold me all 4 "door cards" that match the Light Space Gray interior for $120. Total. Shipped them with the seats. I realize that's a great deal, but contrast that with the current sellers on eBay asking $600 for each front door card and $350 for each rear. That's insanity.

I'm trying to get the 2 pieces of Light Space Gray dash trim to match the seats and door cards, and they want $250 for the big piece and $125 for the small one.

2nd, I'm looking into retrofitting the factory parts for the motorized, hands-free liftgate. One particular eBay seller has every single part I'd need, including wiring harnesses, but they are asking more than dealer MSRP for some of the parts! Even half of MSRP is crazy.

I just don't get it. Are people really paying those prices for salvaged parts?

Sorry this is more of a rant than a productive post, but I'd be interested in others' experiences.

People are not smart. They don't search around for things, they just buy. Some have more money than is good for them.

Smart sellers put things up and see if some yahoo pays.

Heh, I’m seeing nearly full retail price on many of the parts necessary to retrofit the 360 cameras to my car. Eff that. I am not spending over 6K for an option Ford should have let me buy for $3.5K (but didn’t allow me to get since I refuse to add all that weight to the roof of the car). ??

Yeah, that's basically where I'm at with the liftgate. I'll probably just buy the Autosee kit, but I really wanted to try retrofitting the factory hardware. Some of the stuff is almost MSRP, and some is literally higher. They are selling the trunk close button for almost $60, when Ford sells it retail for $24.

Also, I personally would have bought the MME without the Pano roof, but I got the one they had... and my family loves it, so there's that.

Smart sellers put things up and see if some yahoo pays.
Yeah, I'm with you, but when I "make an offer" for several hundred dollars worth of trim pieces from a flood damaged, salvaged vehicle, they were only willing to come down by 10%.

You're not the yahoo they were looking for.

Our 2021 premium MME was “totaled’” by an insurance company because of its salvage value. 22,500 miles with just under $15,000 worth of damage . . . (Light Space Gray interior)

This is crazy stuff. I messaged one of the sellers and told him he was literally asking more than dealership pricing, and he said "OK, make me offers on each of the items and I'll see what I can do".

I thought that meant I could actually work with them.

I even included the actual dealer price in my offers.

He came down 20% on everything.

I mean, here's the liftgate switch:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/364390133081
He's asking $54.99 and came down to $47.99

Here it is at Lakeland Ford in FL for $17.59. Brand new from a dealer!

One of the wiring harnesses he literally came down to a price that is still higher than the new price. The rest of the stuff he came down 20%, but most of it is still 80% of the brand new price.

Just a waste of time.

Internet resellers are the Wild West.

They can charge whatever they want until there is more competition.

9/10 when I'm looking for Ford parts I just go to ebay and search by part (drawing) number then sort by authorized dealers. There's about a half dozen Ford dealers with a large presence on ebay and they have good prices.

This thread made me think of this thread-
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/2022-cyber-orange-stolen-from-my-driveway.33827/

They may not be junkyard parts, they may be stolen parts they’re selling online.
I saw that thread earlier today, it's pretty disappointing that they can get away with stealing particularly a bright orange car.

If they were stolen parts though, I think they'd be more willing to get rid of them as quickly as possible even if it meant a lower price.

I think these people are just nuts. They said they don't come down on "their prices" more than 20%.

I guess it doesn't matter that their prices aren't based in reality. I wished them luck.
