I took all of your answers and comments to heart, purchased a SanDisk 1TB Ultra Fit USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash Drive, formatted it in exFAT, and loaded it with folders filed with WAV files. Using each folder as a playlist. This worked like a champ. The sound improved dramatically.

I will use this for several weeks to see if it will suffice. I do not like the UI, nor do I like that it is locked when driving. However, I don't generally use devices when driving. It would be nice if the co-pilot could. All that being said, I now know I don't "need" a DAP to improve the audio quality of the car.

I did the same with a PNY 256GB 3.2 drive formatted with exFAT. I have all my high resolution FLAC files in separate folders by artist and a few by specific compilations I put together much like your playlists. It works very well and is easy to navigate. After a few mods to the speakers - center and subwoofer - I can say that I'm very satisfied with the high resolution playback.
