Found this plug in the gravel driveway at the garage entrance where I park the MME. The cap is 1 7/16" across; total height including threads is about 3/4". Thanks.

That is the end cap for the tailpipe on your MME. Ford uses this design to keep emissions to a minimum. Look just below the rear bumper on the passenger side for the pipe. Honestly, it probably likely makes very little difference in performance.

This looks like the cap for a brake caliper slide pin for the rear brake calipers. There should be two for each side.

Thank you! Two quick questions -- 1) how can something with this thread depth simply "fall out"? 2) is there any concern driving the car with it out? I'm coming up on my 20K service and would prefer to have taken care of at that time.

No concern driving it, it keeps water/dirt out of the bolt head so it doesn't corrode. I'd ask them to clean and check it during your 20k.
